Christmas activities abound this weekend

The Tallassee Chamber of Commerce has a fun-filled, family weekend planned this weekend to kick off the Christmas season in Tallassee.

Friday, Dec. 1 starts the holiday festivities in Tallassee with the opening of the Christmas Trees in Bell Park. A lighted walking trail will be lined with unique Christmas tree creations created by local businesses. This is the second year the Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Christmas Tree Walk in the park.

“Last year, we had the pleasure of featuring around 20 beautifully adorned trees. This year we aspire to enhance this tradition even further,” Christy Parker, one of the event coordinators stated. “We are still welcoming people to participate. Right now, we have over 30 Christmas trees that will be on display. We provide a custom sign showcasing their business name, ensuring recognition in this magical holiday event.”

The Christmas Trees in Bell Park will be on display through Dec. 31 and people are encouraged to walk the lighted tree path and enjoy the festive trees.

The Holiday Market in Veteran’s Park begins Friday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. and will continue through Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to do a little Christmas shopping while supporting local area vendors. Merchants will offer handmade items, baked goods, gifts, jewelry, clothing and more during the two-day event. Veteran’s Park is located across from City Hall in East Tallassee.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be at the Holiday Market. Mrs. Claus will host a children’s hayride from 5 – 5:45 and 6:15 – 7:45 p.m. The official Christmas tree lighting will take place at 6 p.m. and Santa will be there until 8 p.m. taking Christmas requests.

Friday evening activities will conclude with live Christmas music at the Sounds of the Season hosted at Restoration 49 coffee house located downtown. Relax, visit with friends and enjoy hot cocoa and coffee while enjoying festive holiday music.

The Tallassee Christmas parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the East Tallassee Church of Christ and will travel to Tallassee High School. After Santa concludes the parade, he will be at Grove Sation in downtown until 2 p.m.
