Christmas events planned

A bright and fun-filled Christmas season is planned for Tallassee.

Tallassee has many family holiday events and activities planned that are sure to make Christmas in Tallassee a truly magical time.

Glittering lights already adorn the rooflines of many downtown businesses, buildings and landmarks setting the stage for the holiday season. Discover all the possibilities the whole family can enjoy in Tallassee.

The Tallassee Chamber of Commerce kicks off the holiday season in Tallassee the first weekend in December. The Holiday Market begins the weekend festivities on Friday, Dec. 1 from 2-8 p.m. Local vendors fill Veterans Park in east Tallassee with handmade goods, food, and gifts. Friday evening the Tallassee Christmas Tree lighting is at 6 p.m. in Veterans Park. The evening is concluded with The Sounds of the Season at Restoration 49. Enjoy coffee, hot chocolate and live Christmas music.

The Holiday Market opens back up on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 8 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m. The annual Tallassee Christmas parade begins at East Tallassee Church of Christ at 10 a.m. and will travel to Tallassee High School. Grove Station in downtown Tallassee will host Santa from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Mike and Traci Segrest are hosting an open house for Bradford’s Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 1-4 p.m. at their home at 5850 County Road 30 in Shorter. Bring your children or grandchildren to visit with Santa. Photographers will be available free of charge for family photos. Any donations made will be used for Bradford’s Chapel’s community outreach program.

The McCraney-Cottle Arts Council will present Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” on Thursday, Dec. 7 at Restoration 49. The 7 p.m. performance will be performed in an adaptive format and will have limited seating. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Jerry Cunningham at (334) 312-2679. Hor d’oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m.

Merchants in downtown Tallassee will host Christmas on the Square on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Retail stores will hold open houses with refreshments, door prizes and special sale promotions.

On Sunday, Dec. 10, Seven Gables will open its doors from 1-3 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for ACTS, a local non-profit organization that assists families in need in the greater Tallassee area. Donations will be accepted at the door. Seven Gables, located at 650 Gilmer Avenue, is a historic home built in 1939 for Alabama entrepreneur Robert Blount. The home is now owned by Noah and Pam Griggs.

The Tallassee High School music department hosts the THS Christmas Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the new fine arts center at Tallassee High School. The concert features the various high school band and choir groups at Tallassee High School. Admission is free of charge.

Noble Subdivision will have its annual Christmas luminaries Sunday, Dec. 17 at dusk. Enjoy Christmas lights while driving through the luminary-filled streets.
