The 6U boys honor America during the National Anthem

Update on all-star teams

By Michael Butler

The weekend was busy on the baseball and softball side for Tallassee's all-star teams. Four local baseball teams were in Wetumpka for the USSSA Region 7 Tournament.

All four are automatic qualifiers for state tournament action to be played in Oxford.

The 10U team reached the championship game in the Silver Division but fell to host Wetumpka 8-5 in the final. They were 3-2 overall.

The 6U boys, fielding the first Tallassee team in that age group, went 0-3. The 8U team was 1-2. The 12U was also 1-2.

The 6U and 12U teams open state tourney play this week. Games will be Thursday - Saturday, June 15-17. Next week, the 8U and 10U teams will travel north for games June 22-24.

Each tournament will have two pool-play games per team and then seeded-bracket play.

The Tallassee Babe Ruth League will host state tournament action in all three age groups (13, 14, 15-and-under) beginning July 6. The local league will field two teams, a 13 and 15-and-under. Games will be played at the Babe Ruth Complex and Southside Field.

On the softball side, Tallassee hosted the USSSA South Central Pre-Area 2 Tournament. The 8U girls won the Gold Bracket Championship vs. Wetumpka 17-16. Ava Blackwell's walk-off double drove in the tying and winning runs as the girls finished 4-0. That makes it back-to-back titles in the pre-area rounds.

The 7U Tigers competed in the same bracket going 1-1-1. The 10U Tallassee squad was 2-1. The 6U and 12U teams were in Millbrook. The 6U group went 1-2. The 12U was 3-1.

Area Tournament play is this week for all softball age groups. Games will be in Prattville, Thursday - Saturday, June 15-17.

Another tourney title for the 8U girls
