All-star baseball teams start play this week

The Tallassee Youth Baseball League will send four teams to regional tournaments this week. It is the first round of action for the 6U, 8U, 10U and 12U teams in USSSA Region 7.

"These boys have been working really hard over the past couple of weeks," said Coy Thomas, president of the Tallassee Youth Baseball League. "I am excited to see them play and represent Tallassee baseball. Our all-star teams did really well last year and I believe you will see continued success this year. I would also like to thank the coaches and parents. It is a big commitment that takes up a lot of time. Let’s go win some games."

One age group is brand new to all-star competition in Tallassee. The 6U team is fielding its first all-star squad.

"We're excited to let them compete and learn with other 6U teams," said Megan Miller, director of the Tallassee Recreation Department. "Next year, we'll be playing full USSSA 6U baseball. We're hoping that brings more people. In the past it's been tee ball. The past few years we've been trying to transition into a more structured league for that age group."

Tournaments this week will be in Wetumpka, Phenix City, Millbrook, Clanton. All state tournaments will be in Oxford this year.
