Trade Day this weekend

By Michael Butler

Trade Day returns this weekend with its original name after a short stint as Fall Fest. It will be on the grounds of City Hall in East Tallassee. The autumn event ran uninterrupted from 1989-2016 and became an annual event again in 2021.

Trade Day is put on by the Tallassee Chamber of Commerce. Executive Director Jerry Cunningham talked about this year's schedule.

"We have about 50 vendors," said Cunningham. "We have a lot of different contests going on."

There are four contests: a pumpkin decorating contest, trick-or-treat costume contest, karaoke contest and Moon Pie eating contest. Each have cash prizes.

"It's always the third Saturday," Cunningham added. "Last year, we had a hayride that was successful for the children. We always try to find activities for the children. The children's area will include a rock climbing wall and a hayride."

In addition will be a bouncy house with face painting and balloon art. Vendors will include Louie's SnoKones, MaePop's Barbecue and Wharf Casual Seafood.

"We're going to have a 360 photo booth. We'll have entertainment. The Pointed Toe dancers will be there. We'll have the high school jazz band, choir and Bob Taunton's group - the Whistle Stop Pickers."

Trade Day will be from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.

"It's been well attended in the past. As long as that continues, we'll continue to do it. We appreciate the people who put forth the effort. It's just another part of the community events."
