Ministry to help needy during holidays

By Leigh Anne Butler

With the holidays here, it’s the perfect time to show love for those who are in need this Christmas season. Community Christmas, a division of LIFT (Living in Faith Together) Ministries, is sponsoring children in need in the community.

“LIFT ministries is a community women’s ministry. We use the Community Christmas project like an old-fashioned angel tree from the Salvation Army,” Hannah Johnson, executive director of LIFT Ministries explained. “We’re able to use social media to reach so many more people. People can adopt angels straight from Facebook.”

LIFT Ministries anonymously posts the angels on their Facebook page, along with their Christmas wish list, clothing and shoe sizes.

“We have 182 angels signed up this year,” Johnson continued. “This is our seventh year of serving the community and this year will put us helping over 800 children since we began.”

“We have people who are repeat adopters. They come back every year to help,” Johnson added. “We also have churches who will adopt 15 or 30 children.”

There are still angels who need adopting this Christmas.

“I think my favorite thing to see is when a mother has had her children on the list but then the next Christmas she comes back and adopts a child off the list. With LIFT Ministries, we aim to serve women in the community. We pray that these women can better their situation. When these mothers come back to help others, it just shows that situations can get better.”
