NCAA Tournament: It's bracket picking time again. Four teams from the great state of Alabama are in the 'Dance" and three of those are being shipped to Spokane, Wash.

Auburn (fresh off its SEC tourney title), Alabama and UAB are headed west to Washington. Samford also made the NCAA's but will be in Salt Lake City, Utah.

So much for winning the league tournament helping your seeding. Auburn, by most accounts, were a No. 4 seed before last week's work in Nashville.

Their reward for cutting down the nets? A No. 4 seed in what many are calling the toughest region with three other higher-seeded conference champs including the defending champs and overall favorite UConn.

Alabama faded down the stretch this season but maintained a No. 4 seed of its own. Who knows what might happen with March Madness. This team is not as good as last year's overall No. 1 seed, but that team only reached the Sweet 16.

The SEC got eight teams into the field, only matched by the Big 12. The reputation of the SEC in winning national championships does not apply in hoops as in football. The last SEC title to win the whole thing... you guessed it - Kentucky. That was in 2012.

Can you imagine no football titles in 12 years? The SEC has won seven in the same span on the gridiron. Bama has four of those. Auburn did play for one.

Neither the Tide nor the Tigers have ever played for a basketball title. Auburn did reach the Final Four five years ago under Bruce Pearl.

The SEC is not alone as a Power 5 without any recent titles. The last championship for the so-called basketball league known as the Big Ten came in 2000. The Pac-12 last won a championship in 1997.

The ACC has three in the last ten years, as does the Big East. The Big 12 has a couple of titles during that stretch.

UConn and Villanova are the only programs with multiple titles over the past decade. Both are in the Big East, but the Huskies won their 2014 championship as members of the American Athletic Conference.

Of the 36 Final Four teams since 2014 (there was no tournament in 2020), five spots have been held by SEC teams. Kentucky has done it twice. Florida, South Carolina and Auburn have also been in the mix.

The odds of both Alabama and Auburn making the Final Four are small but possible. The chance for both to play in the championship is impossible (can you imagine?). Both are on the same side of the bracket.
