Todd Blocker shows off his gunPunt, pass and kick title goes to girl

by Don Shavis

11 contestants and many more on-lookers turned out last Thursday for the "Punt, Pass and Kick" contest at J. E. "Hot" O'Brien Stadium. Tammy Hethcox, known most for her calls to the Paul Finebaum Show, was given the best overall "has been" trophy by Tallassee Football Coach Rodney Dollar.

Dollar awarded Hethcox for "traveling the farthest." She did top "Charles from Reeltown" on two of three categories. He complained of his bad back for the better part of the afternoon. I-Man, another infamous Finebaum caller, watched but elected not to participate. The threesome dined together afterwards at Cotton's Barbeque.

Other top contenders included Tallassee assistant coaches Jason Eason, John Mask, Eric Cagle and Todd Miller. WTLS Radio's Michael Butler and Trey "Country" Taylor also got into the action.

Butler heaved the longest throw of 55 yards. Taylor threw his arm out on the third try. His kick of 55 yards in the contestant's choice was the day's best. Eason lofted the longest punt of 49 yards. Yardage was deducted for being off-line, just like the pros.

Other good sports were Wes Sinor, Todd Blocker and Keith Chambers from the "Class of '91," who kicked barefoot.

Dollar said that he would like to do a powder puff game next year.
