Glass talks about coaching opening

By Michael Butler

Tallassee High School has begun the process of finding its next head football coach and athletic director. The person selected will replace Mike Battles Jr., who held the position for the past 12 years.

The opening was posted on Nov. 9. As of last week, there were 40 applicants.

"I am pleased with both the numbers and quality of the applicant pool," said THS principal Drew Glass, who is heading up the search committee that will make a recommendation.

The AHSAA playoffs will conclude the first week of December, which could open the door for more candidates currently in post-season competition.

"The perfect time table would be to have someone named at the January board meeting, but we are not going to rush it," Glass said. "We are going to take our time to find the best fit for our school and community."

The adverstised position notes:

- Must hold a valid Alabama Teaching Certificate (or equivalent)
- Head football coaching experience of a minimum of three years as a coordinator

"It is a combo job posting," added Glass, pointing out that the person hired would handle both coaching and AD duties.
