Valley routs Tigers

A quick score on the opening drive was a sign of things to come. Valley put up 41 points in the first half en route to a 48-14 victory over Tallassee in a Class 5A/Region 4 tilt at Rams Field. The win eliminated the Tigers from playoff contention.
"We got down early," said THS head football coach Mike Battles. "A lot of the stuff that happened to us early on was because they were really good.
"We went in at halftime and I said this ain't the first time I've had my rear end whipped. We didn't play like a Tallassee team should that first half. We looked like we may have tapped out. I thought we came out in the second half and played a lot better."
Both coaches agreed to have a continuous clock in the second half.
"They did us a favor. The coach over there has a lot of class. It is what it is. The better team won."
Valley's Tilyn Carroll ran for 241 yards on 13 carries and had three touchdowns.
"They are really athletic," Battles added. "We got outmanned. They were bigger across the front on both sides of the ball. Our kids fought. They've done like they've done all year."
Trent Morris was 10-of-15 passing for 77 yards. Chase Chumley had 4 receptions for 40 yards including a 24-yard touchdown from Mason Battles. Jaden McKenzie added a three-yard scoring run.
Tallassee (1-7) travels to Sylacauga (0-8) on Friday. The Aggies have lost 20 straight games.
"We're just going to keep fighting," Battles noted. "We've got two more games. Hopefully we can get another victory or two here. We're not going to quit and still attack it like we're 8-0."
