Booker T. Washington spoiled Tallassee’s home opener on a wet Friday night at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium, 44-0. It was the Eagles’ first shutout in the series and broke a seven-game win streak over BTW by the Tigers. “They’re a tremendous team,” said Tallassee head coach Mike Battles. “They’ve got a lot of athletes that are going to be playing on Saturdays. I think it was very easy to see who the better team was, but I was glad to see our kids keep a good attitude. We had very few penalties.” Despite 206 yards in penalties, Booker T. dominated with 427 yards of offense to just 79 for Tallassee. Quarterback EJ Hall did most of the damage accounting for six of seven touchdowns (three passing, three rushing). In all, Hall had 274 yards. Reserve Mason Henderson had success late with 24 yards on four carries for Tallassee. Bryson Rigsby and Mason Battles combined for 49 passing yards. Chase Chumley was the top target with five catches for 19 yards. “We had some improvement,” Battles added. “We did some things in the second half. Our quarterbacks played better. We didn’t have any turnovers. They called one, but I’m not sure it was a turnover.”

BTW jumped out to a 12-0 lead after a quarter that grew to 24-0 at halftime. The Eagles did not have a turnover after ten a week prior in the season-opening loss to Trinity. “The guys across from you outweigh you by 50 and 70 pounds,” Battles continued, “and they’ve got a few that if they break we can’t catch them.” Tallassee (0-2) opens region play on Friday at Clay Central. “The road doesn’t get any easier. Our kids will fight. That’s what we expect. They’re still young. They’re learning. They’ll take their licks but they’ll get there.” Kickoff in Lineville will be 7 p.m. Airtime on WTLS/Score 94.7/Hit 106.9 will be at 6. Audio will be simulcast on Spectrum Channel 340.
