10U team wins state championship

Seven Tallassee all-star baseball and softball teams were scattered throughout Alabama in state play last week. The two baseball squads reached title games. The 10U team won a championship.

The 10U all-stars rolled through the Silver Division in games in Pell City and Lincoln outscoring opponents 101-9 in six blowout wins. Tallassee faced rival Wetumpka for the 4A trophy winning 17-3.

Jax Luster got the win on the mound with three innings of work striking out three and walking one. Luster was 2-for-2 at the plate as well. Jacob Willcutt added couple of hits.

The 8U Tigers fought back in the Gold Division after a couple of opening losses in pool play to reach the 5A title game. Tallassee trailed Eclectic 10-3 in the semifinal but came back for 14-13 victory. Geraldine claimed the championship though by a 14-6 score.

All four softball teams competed at the state level in action at Wetumpka, Prattville and Alex City. The 8U girls' run of three straight tournament championships came to an end after opening the weekend tourney with three wins in the Gold Division but dropping the next two in bracket play.

The 10U girls went 4-2 overall. The 12U team also went 4-2.

Next up are World Series tournaments potentially for some teams. The 10U boys received an automatic invite to Gulfport, Miss.

Tallassee's Babe Ruth all-stars begin play next week. Tallassee will be hosting all three age groups for the state tournament starting on July 6. The local league will field a 15-and-under and 13-year-old team. 15 teams are already committed for the event.
