State tourney action abounds for all-stars

Two Tallassee baseball teams competed at the USSSA State Tournament at Choccolocco Park in Oxford. Two more will go back this week.

The 12U all-stars played five games going 3-2. After a 1-1 record in pool play, the Tallassee boys picked up wins over Munford (6-1) and Boaz (13-7). They were eliminated by Millbrook 8-7. The 6U team went 0-3 playing in the age group's first-ever state competition.

This week, the 8U and 10U teams are in action beginning on Thursday, June 22. The 8U squad will play in the 55-team gold division. The 10 will be in the 34-team silver bracket.

Tallassee's all-star softball teams will all be playing in the state tournament this week, June 22-24. Three of the participating five age groups were area champs or runners-up last weekend in Prattville.

The 8U girls made it three straight tourney championships. They did drop one game to Wetumpka (20-13), their first loss in post-season play, but avenged the defeat by beating Wetumpka in a rematch for the championship 15-3. The 8U team is 12-1 in all-star games.

Lauren Puckett threw 12 2/3 innings in the tournament with 18 strikeouts and six walks. Hartli Thornton led the team at the plate hitting .545. The young ladies played seven games over an 18-hour span after arriving for game one at 7:15 on Saturday morning and concluding the tournament at 1:15 on Sunday morning.

They did it again. It's now three tourney titles for the 8U girls

The 6U girls reached the championship but lost in a heartbreaker to Clanton 13-12. The 10U team fell to Alex City in the title game 9-2 after beating the same squad 7-2 to force the if game for the championship.

The 6U, 8U and 10U teams will play in the gold division this week. This 8U is the No. 1 seed. The 6U and 10U teams are No. 2 seeds. The 7U and 12U teams are playing in the silver division.

The 6U state tournament is in Wetumpka. The 8U tourney is in Prattville. Alex City is the host site for the 10U and 12U tournaments.
