Nancy Irene Cottle, passed away March 1, 2024 after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Nancy grew up in Huntsville, AL as well as in Memphis, TN where she attended the Lausanne School for Girls. She used to recount a time that Elvis met the students.  After Lausanne, Nancy joined the Marines and served during the vietnam war. After her military service she worked as a social worker then later obtained her undergraduate degree from Auburn University and her juris doctorate from the University of Alabama Law School. Throughout her legal career she had a trial or hearing in all 67 counties of the state of Alabama. Nancy's husband John was also an attorney and they served as adversaries for a moot court lesson for the students at Duke University. Nancy enjoyed reminding John that she prevailed in that case. During the time she resided in Tallassee and Lake Martin, AL she was the first woman to serve on the Tallassee Community Hospital board of Directors and was also active in the Methodist church and McCraney-Cottle Arts council  After she relocated to Florida she served as Vice Chair of the Walton County Democratic party and served as Chairman of Sinfonia Gulf Coast Board of Directors. She was a lifelong supporter of all of the Arts and Education and had a firm belief that early exposure to the arts was essential to raising critical thinking compassionate people. Nancy was a veteran, attorney, wife and mother but above all she was a devoted grandmother to her beloved granddaughters, McKenzie & Sydney. She was fortunate to have been able to take several rewarding family trips with them. Some of their more memorable destinations included New York, Alaska, Washington, DC, & San Juan, the highlight being a trip to Paris with the two granddaughters. 

Nancy is preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years John Cottle, she is survived by her son, Michael Cottle, her daughter-in-law, Kristin Currie Cottle, both of Sugar Hill, Ga, and her two granddaughters, McKenzie Taylor Cottle and Sydney Marie Cottle and grand dog Sophie Cottle. Nancy is also survived by her brother in law Charles Allen Cottle, his wife Sheryl Hancock Cottle and their children Anna and Peter Cottle as well as brother in law Joseph Milton Brogdon Jr. and Weldon Ledbetter. In accordance with her wishes, Nancy was cremated. The family will have a private ceremony and a celebration of life.
