White
Christmas in Tallassee
by
Michael Butler
As
sprinkles of white dotted the evening
sky in Tallassee on Christmas day,
I thought I should pinch myself. A
White Christmas in Tallassee? No way!
Well,
seeing is believing. The forecasters
hinted that there could be snowfall
on Saturday. It happened in the late
afternoon. What was mostly slush,
still gave many their first white
Christmas.
We
have heard Bing Crosby's song from
the 1954 movie "Holiday Inn."
It was voted the #1 Christmas song
of all time. "White Christmas"
has been recorded about 10,000 times
since the original.
I
can count on one hand, the number
of snow days we've seen in the past
couple of years. Interestingly enough,
we've seen snowflakes three times
already this cold season. The day
after Christmas, the white stuff filled
the air again. Some of it even stuck
to the ground.
As
I watched "A Christmas Story"
for the seventh straight time during
the TBS on Saturday, the final scene
with the snow scene on Christmas night
hit home. We had it here, like Ralphie
and his Northern Indiana family.
It was a wonderful Christmas at our
house. I hope the same was true for
you and yours. Maybe Frosty will be
back again someday.
