Homecoming in T-town

When scrolling through social media the week of Tallassee High School’s homecoming, one phrase you are likely to see accompanying many posts is “nobody does homecoming like Tallassee.” Everyone knows Tallassee takes pride in embracing its returning classes as well as promoting the current senior class in a way like no other. 

This year, THS welcomes back the Class of 1998. The festivities kick off Thursday evening at 7:00 with the candlelight ceremony on the front steps of the school, followed by a bonfire behind the school on the band practice field. For many returning alums, this may be the first time seeing some of their classmates since graduating. 

The fun continues on Friday morning with the pep rally at 8:15. The 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM morning show, The Wake-Up Call, will broadcast the pep rally live. You can also watch the pep rally via Tallassee Times TV: www.tallasseetv.com. Coverage begins at 6:00 a.m. and will continue until the conclusion of the pep rally.

The Tallassee School System has early dismissal at 12:00, so students can participate or watch the annual homecoming parade which begins at 2:00 p.m. There was some discussion about possibly changing the parade route this year, but the the parade route will remain the same as in years past. The parade will begin at Tallassee High School and end at the East Tallassee Shopping Center. If you or your organization is interested in having an entry in the parade, you must complete a parade liability form that is available in the main office of Tallassee High School.

The homecoming pregame ceremony and crowning of the homecoming queen begins at 6:30 p.m. at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium. Tallassee takes on Leeds, which kicks off at 7:00. Tickets for the game Friday night will be sold at Tallassee High School prior to the pep rally Friday morning and until 10:00 in front of the gym. Adult tickets are $7 and students are $3.

Kelli Sayers Burt, who had her 20-year reunion at THS last year, posted on Facebook Monday afternoon, “Homecoming week at Tallassee; no other school does it like we do.  My advice: cherish each and every moment, take pictures, laugh, cry, sing and dance.  Remember the good times and the bad times. Love one another and have fun.  Life can be cut short in an instant and all you will have left are the memories. Make them count. Have fun Class of 1998 and Class of 2018!”
