By Michael Butler

While many drivers were headed home from work, Tallassee police officers were engaged in a high-speed pursuit. On Wednesday afternoon, authorities captured Alan Morales after a chase led them from Gilmer Avenue to I-85 near the Shorter exit.

Morlaes, a hispanic male, is charged with third-degree robbery of CVS in Tallassee. Additional charges include; first-degree attempted theft of property, possession of burglary tools, felony attempting to elude, felony hit and run and felony render to aid.

The TPD posted on its Facebook page that other charges may be added and that Morales may be linked to similar offenses in surrounding jurisdictions.

"Patrol officers were able to identify the suspect's vehicle as it was fleeing the scene," the post noted. "The driver refused to stop."

Locals noticed several law enforement vehicles on the trek southward along Highway 229. Tallassee was aided by Macon and Montgomery County Sheriff Departments and Alabama State Troopers.

Morales was apprehended at 4:41 p.m.
