Beauty pageant to raise funds for dance teams

A local staple that brought beauty contestants from our area to the stage is returning. 

A new, local beauty pageant will take place on Saturday, April 8 in Tallassee after about a seven-year stretch without one being held. The Tallassee High School and Southside Middle School dance teams are putting on "Miss Treasure on the Tallapoosa" as a fundraiser. The last beauty pageant hosted in Tallassee was the Miss Tallassee Pageant in 2016 and was sponsored by the Tallassee Athene Women’s Club.

The Miss Treasure on the Tallapoosa is open to residents of Elmore and Tallapoosa counties ages birth through 12th grade.

“We didn’t want the pageant to be just something for Tallassee. We obviously want Tallassee girls to be a part of it but we wanted to open it up to Elmore and Tallapoosa counties so that girls from the surrounding areas could participate as well,” Hillary Eckstein, Tallassee High School dance team sponsor stated. “That way girls who are interested in pageants and enjoy participating in them can get to know girls from surrounding areas who are interested in the same things. That’s where the Miss Treasure on the Tallapoosa came into being so we could include girls from other areas.”

The pageant will take place at the Southside Middle School Gym. Birth through fourth grade contestants will participate in an early competition at 1 p.m. Fifth grade through 12th grade contestants will compete at 7 p.m.

To participate, contestants must complete an entry form and submit payment to Rikki Wisener in the Southside Middle School office by Friday, March 31. There will be an optional dress rehearsal on Friday, April 7 at 5:30 p.m.  You can find more information and download documents at the “Miss Treasure on the Tallapoosa 2023” Facebook page or contact Hillary Eckstein at hillary.eckstein@tcschools.com
