Tallassee police release video of "vehicle of interest"

By Michael Butler

Authorities are still investigating the May 4 East Tallassee mill fire. Last week, Tallassee police released a video of a "vehicle of interest" that was disseminated by Central Alabama Crime Stoppers.

"We've looked into about ten calls since the report," Tallassee police chief Jimmy Rodgers said. "None tied anything to the mill."

The surveillance video came from two locations. Two cameras are located at the Tallassee Police Station, downtown. The other shot was from the Tallassee High School campus aimed at the Five Points intersection.

"A couple of agencies are trying to enhance the video," Rodgers added.

The vehicle is a dark colored Tahoe or Yukon with a lighter colored hood that was seen in the area of the mill prior to the call received the night of the fire.

Rewards are being offered that lead to the capture and conviction of those involved. Mill owners, Mount Vernon Pine, LLC, are putting up $5,000. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has added $2,500 to that amount.
