School board member passes

By Michael Butler

Tallassee City Schools board member Lacey Brewer has died. She was 53.

Brewer was serving her second term on the board. She was first elected in 2016.

"It's a blow to our Tiger Nation," superintendent Dr. Brock Nolin said. "She was the true epitomy of a Tiger fan. There wasn't a pitch being thrown or football being thrown down the field that Lacey wasn't there rooting for our boys and girls. She was also a supporter of all our choirs and music. It is a sad day for the Tallassee Tiger fans, the board and community as a whole. She was an outstanding individual."

Friends showed support for Brewer with a wear purple day on Feb. 5. The event became a movement across the community and beyond with posts on Facebook. Over 10,000 were reached on a Tallassee Times Facebook post regarding the event. Brewer was a contributor on the Times with regular reports on school board meetings.

Brewer, a 1985 THS graduate, served on the Tallassee High School Alumni Association. She was a member of the McCraney-Cottle Arts Council. She had been employed at Neptune Technology Group since 1990. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tallassee.

"For her, the battle is over and her race is won and she sees her Redeemer face to face," Rev. Clint McBroom said. "For us, we grieve. Let us pray for her family and friends, and for one another."

Funeral arrangements have not yet been set.
