GKN employee with coronavirus

Staff Report

GKN Aerospace in Tallassee has confirmed that an employee has tested positive for coronavirus.

"The health and safety of employees is our top priority," GKN Media and Communications Manager Wesley Bates said. "Following a single confirmed case of cornavirus at our Tallassee manufacturing facility, we have decided to extend the Easter break and temporarily pause production for a deep clean until Wednesday, April 15."

GKN is Elmore County's largest employer with approximately 1,000 personnel that operate during three shifts daily.

"All employees whose activities are not directly related to production activity will continue to work remotely, wherever possible, during this period," Bates added. "This temporary measure will help protect our workforce.

"These are unprecedented times and our focus throughout is to protect our people, so we can continue to supply to our world-leading customers during and beyond this extraordinary period. We are following the national guidance as a minimum in all states in which we operate and we will continue to take all steps necessary to ensure the health and safety of our workforce, our partners and everyone associated with the business."
