Beacher promoted to principal

By Michael Butler

Shanikka Beacher will be taking over the reins as principal at Tallassee Elementary School. The Tallassee Board of Education approved the move in its Monday board meeting.

Beacher has spent the past five years as assistant principal at TES.

"I am honored by this opportunity to serve as the principal of Tallassee Elementary," Beacher said. "I have had the distinct pleasure of working at Tallassee Elementary for more than ten years.

"As an innovative educator and current instructional leader, I instill in students a desire to achieve their best. Students are held accountable for both their academic performance and behavior. I encourage parental participation in all aspects of your child's educational experience."

Beacher was chosen among more than 30 applicants to fill the opening vacated by Jose Reyes, who accepted the superintendent's postion at the Scottsboro school system.

Superintendent Wade Shipman spoke of the board's decision.

"We put together a selection committee," he said. "The ultimate goal was to find the best person for Tallassee Elementary School. I think we did. We had some really good applicants. We ended up with six candidates to interview. We were very happy with the process.

"Sometimes people have advantages. There are some advantages of working where you've worked. She had that, and those things showed up. She's worked hard to put herself in this position. I think she's ready for the challenge."
