Wrestlers fall in quarters
By Michael Butler
Tallassee's streak of dual match wins ended at 20. No. 20 came in dramatic fashion during the AHSAA Class 5A/6A state duals at Tallassee High School on Friday. The loss in the next match was a hard pill to swallow. It knocked the Tigers from contention for a state title in the duals format.
"We did not wrestle our best," THS head coach John Mask said, "but the other teams were a factor in that. They were very good."
Tallassee won its first match vs. Spanish Fort 37-36. The tilt was all even at 34-34 going into the final match. Micah Cole got the win in the decisive heavyweight final and Tallassee advanced.
Gulf Shores won the next match with THS 59-9 to eliminate the lone 5A.
Tallassee will try to start a new duals streak on Thursday at home against Russell County and Holtville. Matches begin at 4:30 p.m.
