Wrestlers set for post-season

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee wrestling team now awaits its fate for the post-season. The Tigers finished the regular season on a 10-game win streak with a 14-3 overall record.

"We will not know who gets into the tournament until Feb. 9," THS head coach John Mask said. "All coaches will enter their lineups and then wait to see who gets in."

Mask has been at home on COVID protocol. He missed his first match in person in 21 years on Senior Night and watched instead on Tallassee Times TV. Tallassee beat Beulah 72-6 and Reeltown 75-6.

"The kids gave me a boost of energy with their effort," Mask said after the win on Thursday.

The team wrapped up the week with a 66-9 win over Pike Road on Friday.

"I'm so proud of the coaches and wrestlers," Mask added. "Every one of our wrestlers wrestled their hearts out."

The AHSAA state tournament will be in Huntsville on Feb. 18-20 for Class 5A/6A. There will be no sectionals qualifiers this year.
