Football Picks: I picked ten select bowl games for last week's column and went 7-3. That brings the overall record to 120-43 (74%) with one game to go.

I believe it's safe to say that this has been the SEC's worst bowl effort. No excuses. Opt outs, meaningless games, matchups aside - the league kind of stunk overall.

But, there is that national title game, an all-SEC affair. So, the critics will say the conference is top heavy. That is true. Regardless, in the end - the SEC will reign once again.

Georgia vs. Alabama (Part 2): Here comes the sequel much to the dismay of many, but these are the top two teams. It's a rematch of the SEC Championship Game. Alabama was the underdog before and won. They are the underdog again (according to Vegas). Will they win again?

A common theme in discussion of Georgia that I heard after their impressive win over Michigan was - the old Georgia returned.

Why did we see the old Georgia again? It was because of the team on the other side of the ball.

These games are all about matchups. Michigan couldn't match up with Georgia just as Cincinnati couldn't match up with Alabama.

The first time the Tide and Bulldogs played, Georgia finally met their match.

Sometimes there is too much made of intangibles. They do play a part but are mostly overrated.

Yes, it was "yummy" rat poison for Alabama last time. And it'll make for another delectable dish leading up to Jan. 10.

In the end; however, it comes down to what happens from sideline to sideline.

Alabama did play its best game in the first meeting in Atlanta. Georgia did not play the kind of game we saw from them throughout the 2021 season.

Was that because they are intimidated by Bama or Nick Saban is Kirby Smart's daddy?

While those factors give the Crimson Tide a slight edge, I'd go with the execution on the field. Alabama held up, up front. Their skilled players made plays.

Maybe in the game in Indianapolis on Monday, Stetson Bennett will make plays. Maybe Bryce Young won't. That will be the difference - not Alabama's past mastery in this series with seven straight wins.

Bama's recent injuries might make that task more difficult. There are some head-to-head matchups that still give Alabama the edge.

Will Anderson > Jordan Davis. Bryce Young > Stetson Bennett. Nick Saban > Kirby Smart.

I don't think the December game was a fluke. Alabama 31, Georgia 27
