Softball team lands in top five of first poll

The Tallassee High School softball team made its debut in the Alabama Sports Writers Association initial 2022 poll at No. 4.

The Class 5A rankings have Alexandria at No. 1. Last year's state champion Satsuma is No. 2. Rehobeth, who beat Tallassee 3-2 in February, is No. 3.

Elmore County, who Tallassee will play on April 26 in Eclectic is No. 5. Area rival Brewbaker Tech is No. 6.

Tallassee (12-5) and Elmore County (12-4) both reached the state tournament in Oxford last year. The Panthers were eliminated by eventual champ Satsuma. Tallassee was knocked out by state runner-up Ardmore.

With Spring Break, the Tigers (12-5) are off until March 31.
