Fans storm the floor after Tallassee's win over Elmore County on Jan. 4 at Stumberg Gym

Winter sports to have limited attendance

By Michael Butler

Due to an increase in Covid cases, the Tallassee City School System is limiting attendance for the remainder of the winter sports season.

The school system posted a notice on its Facebook page on Jan. 18 regarding the modifications.

"The only fans who may enter are parents of the athletes in the sport being played."

Superintendent Dr. Brock Nolin elaborated more on the policy.

"It was kind of a dual call," Nolin said. "With the coronarvirus running rampant we had some concerns about the kids being around each other.

"Also, we had some students behaving badly - some of our surrounding schools wanted to come in and had caused some issues. You've got to know how to act in the stands. We want to watch our kids. Hopefully they'll learn their lesson. If you want to come to a sporting event in Tallassee, you've got to behave."

There have a been a few instances at basketball games this season that Nolin referenced. Tallassee has just one remaining regular season game on the home schedule. The wrestling program has one home match date left - Senior Night on Thursday, Jan. 27. Tallassee Times TV will have a live webcast of the matches vs. Reeltown and Beulah on Thursday beginning at 5:30.
