Softball all-stars get started this week

Tallassee's youth all-star softball teams open tournament play on Thursday, June 1. South Central Pre-Area 1 games will be played in Clanton and Jemison.

Tallassee is fielding five different teams with 57 players participating. There are 33 teams registered. The 6U, 7U and 8U tourneys will be in Clanton with the 10U and 12U playing in Jemison.

Tallassee Youth Softball League President Kyle Patterson explained the post-season format.

"Area tournaments are pool play and then a single elimination," Patterson said. "Those are seeding tournaments for the area. Area is double elimination. The top half of each age group in area play in the top bracket at state. The bottom half at area can play in a silver bracket if they want too. It's gold or bust."

Tallassee will host next week's Pre-Area 2 Tournament for the 7U, 8U and 10U divisions from June 8-10.
