Girls win 3 of 4 in Wetumpka

The Tallassee softball team went 3-1 over the weekend in the Wetumpka Tournament.

The Tigers won both pool play games on Friday over Russellville (4-1) and Stanhope Elmore (8-6). They opened bracket play Saturday with a 9-8 win over Opelika before falling to Prattville 7-5.

Madeline Weldon got the win in the tourney opener against Russellville throwing four innings and allowing one earned run with one strikeout and one walk. Marlee Stewart, Abbie Davis, Brooke Royster and Alli Smith collected hits for the Tigers.

Royster went all seven innings in the 8-6 win over Stanhope. She struck out four and walked one. Smith was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Kam Tate was 2-for-4 with two runs driven in. Stewart and Jenna Manning each added two hits and an RBI apiece.

Tate and Weldon teamed up in the circle for the Tigers' win over Opelika. Weldon got the win in five innings of relief allowing no earned runs with four strikeouts and a walk. Tallassee had nine hits as a team with two each from Cheyann Easterling and Regan Easterwood.

In the setback vs. Opelika, the Tigers mustered just four hits. Easterling was 2-for-2.

Tallassee (7-6) goes to Elmore County (8-4) for the first area game of the season on Tuesday, March 7. The JV game starts at 4:30 p.m. followed by varsity action at 6.

"We're really good buddies," THS head coach Pat Love said of Elmore County's Mark Segrest. "He's a great coach. They have a really good team. It's going to be fun to play each other."
