Basketball season ends at Clay

By Michael Butler

Tallassee's basketball season has ended. The Tiger boys lost in the sub-regional round of the playoffs at Clay Central 61-53 on Tuesday.

The win was the 14th in a row for the Volunteers (19-5) who move on the Central Regional in Birmingham. Tallassee closes its season with an 11-10 record.

The game was lost at the free throw line where the Tigers made just 6 shots out of 25 attempts. Clay Central was 17 of 23 from the charity stripe.

"The tough part of ending a season is the relationships we have developed with these guys," THS head coach Keiven Mixson said. "I love these guys and will really miss more than anything just talking, laughing and sharing."

Mixson loses eight seniors.

"(I'm) so proud of what they have accomplished on and off the court. These are great young men who I know will do great things in the future."

Tim Washington will be among the graduates. He scored 11. Sophomore Rowen Thornton also had 11. Seventh grader Jaiden Gordon led all scorers with 12 and added seven assists.

"I feel as though we are still in great shape for the future for our girls and boys program," Mixson noted. "If anybody thinks we going away we not.

"Our goal is still to make it to regionals and win a state championship. Tallassee is really making a name for itself with incredible coaches and great programs for all our students. Academic excellence is on the rise and this new school will be the icing on the cake."
