Tigers grab lopsided wins

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee varsity boys basketball team picked up two wins last week to get back to .500 basketball for the season. The Tigers are 7-7/1-1 now after blowout victories over Elmore County 81-53 and area foe Beauregard 70-39.

The Tigers have now hit the 80-point mark twice this season. They have averaged 73 points per game over their last four contests.

In the win over Elmore County on Tuesday, three Tallassee players surpassed 20 points - a first for a Keiven Mixson-coached team. Kaden Slay led the way with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Tim Washington had 21 and Rowen Thornton 20. There was some unfortunate news. Senior James Bender was lost for the season suffering a leg injury in the third period.

Thornton and Washington had 23 each in the win at Beauregard on Thursday.

The girls split their two games beating Elmore County 56-51 and losing to Beauregard 51-17. The win was the third of the season under first-year coach LD Bell.

The Tigers return a trip to Elmore County in Eclectic on Tuesday, Jan. 17. They host both Trinity on Jan. 23 and Valley in area play on Jan. 24.

The Valley game will be broadcast on WTLS and webcast through Tiger Nation on Facebook. The Rams are undefeated and atop the Class 5A rankings. They handed Tallassee its lone loss in area play back in December.
