Hoops team prepares for area play

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee varsity boys went 2-1 last week in matchups with three different county rivals.

The Tigers (7-4) beat Holtville 69-41 on Monday and Elmore County 58-51 on Tuesday, both at Stumberg Gym. On Thursday, the Tigers dropped the opening game of the Elmore County Tournament in Hotville to Wetumpka 58-53.

Jalyn Daniels scored 20-plus points in all three games. He is averaging 24.3 points per game this season.

Daniels had 23 in the victory over Holtville. Tim Washington added 14. Duke Washington scored 13 and had eight rebounds.

Daniels was the leading scorer in the win against Elmore County. He also had seven rebounds. The highlight of the night came at the buzzer with a windmill dunk by Washington.

In the Tigers loss versus Wetumpka, Daniels had 27 points. Zavion Carr led on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Tallassee opens area play at home vs. Brewbaker Tech on Tuesday, Jan. 11. The JV game has been canceled, so the varsity girls game tips off at 4:30 followed by the varsity boys game.

The team will play all six area games in a span from Jan. 11-25.

"We are starting to find ourselves as we go into area play," head coach Keiven Mixson said. "We have learned a lot about our team now. We just need to execute better, be more consistant and try to improve each day."
