Tigers dominate Rebs

It was another happy homecoming as Tallassee beat Rehobeth 21-6 improving to 3-3 and 2-2 in Class 5A/Region 2 play and remain in the playoff chase.

The Tigers are 9-0 in games vs. Rehobeth.

Orliyah Poole was crowned queen prior to kickoff as THS honored the Class of 2000. The 1999 seniors went 13-1 and reached the semifinals 20 years ago breaking the single-season record for wins.

Tallassee started fast with a 32-yard run by Jalyn Daniels on its first play and touchdown scoring drive on that possession capped by Truck Griffin's 10-yard scamper. The Tigers led 7-0.

The senior had a banner night with three TDs in all. His second put Tallassee up 14-0 in the second quarter on a pass reception from Tyler Ellis of 12 yards.

The 14-0 lead remained in to the fourth quarter until Rehobeth crossed the goal line on a 4th and 2 with 8:48 left in the game.

But Griffin would strike one more time with a 31-yard run for the clincher. Griffin finished with 136 yards on 13 carries.

"That bunch has been giving up six points a game. We came out and got up on them 14," Tallassee head coach Mike Battles said. "Our defense to hold them on four fourth downs and give up only six points, that was a total team effort. It's a big win.

"This senior class has never lost a homecoming. We had the 2000 class back in town. They set the benchmark. We wanted to make sure they knew we still play football here in Tallassee."

Tallassee had 315 yards of total offense to Rehobeth's 170.

Tallassee travels to Troy next week to face Charles Henderson in another key region game. 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM will have live coverage of the game beginning at 6. Kickoff is at 7. Coverage is also available on Tallassee Times TV through YouTube, Spectrum Channel 97 and the TuneIn app.
