Tigers goal: get back to playoffs

By Michael Butler

Rewind the clock to 2007. It was the last time the Tallassee High School football team missed the post-season until last year. A 10-year streak of playoff appearances was snapped in 2018 and it's been weighing on head coach Mike Battles during the off-season.

Battles had Tallassee to the "second season" in his first six years in Tallassee. Prior to that, Battles had a run of five consecutive post-seasons at Bibb County and Oak Grove.

Greenville ran away with the region last year going 6-0. The Tigers reached the state semifinals. The next five teams were separated in the standings by no more than two games. Tallassee at 6-4/3-3 lost in the tiebreak to Valley and Charles Henderson.

Battles hopes tiebreakers will be a non-factor this season and likes the Tigers chances every week.

"I think we can compete in every game. There's not one that I don't think we can't win," Battles said. "If we do what we're supposed to and stay healthy, we've got a chance. I don't look at schedule and say, 'we can't play with them.' Anytime you've got pride and the support like we have in Tallassee, it's your job to go out and get it done."
