College prospects getting attention

By Michael Butler

Several Tallassee football players are already on the radar screen for college opportunities as they head into their senior seasons.  The day before the Tigers spring game, seven colleges were in town scouting THS players.

“We have Kalvin Levett, Andy Baker, Trent Cochran-Gill, have a chance,” Tallassee head coach Mike Battles said back in May. “Those guys with a good year and staying healthy could have a chance because with college recruiting beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One college coach will say he’s a little undersized. The next will say he’s the guy.

“We had probably the most coaches come through in a spring.  They’re coming from colleges out of Atlanta, Troy, South Alabama, West Alabama, UAB, Samford, Tuskegee. It’s encouraging.”

Awards for "Z-Man" Rivers last year, including Defensive Freshman of the Year

Tallassee has four former players on college rosters entering the 2018 season; Jake Baker (Troy), Zeryes "Z-Man" Rivers (Faulkner), Brady Hancock (Faulkner) and Logan Goodman (Faulkner). Dijon Paschal played his senior season at Arkansas State last fall.

The new batch of college prospects will be on display when Tallassee opens the season vs. Catholic at J. E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM will broadcast live beginning at 6.
