CLP to offer fall travel ball

By Michael Butler

CLP Academy is putting together baseball and softball teams for this fall. Teams will be devised of players ages 6-18. Registration is from June 15 - July 1.

"There will be a $50 commitment fee charged on the day of signing up that will come off of your total fees," CLP owner Stephen Webster said. "The total cost of playing will be $450 for the fall season, but after fundraisers you will owe less or even nothing."

The fees cover tournament fees and balls for tournaments. In addition, each player will receive matching helmets, jerseys and bags.

"We'll play in four to six tourneys starting in September. Practices will begin in August," Webster added. "The kids need more game experience. We'll play at least 15 games in the tournaments. I'm not taking anybody away from league ball."

Webster also noted that players will play multiple positions.

"All coaches will be on the same page," he said. "During practice and pool play, no kid will play just short stop or first base or pitcher. They're going to play at least three positions. We're tying to create athletes, not specific position players."

Webster is also seeking non-parent coaches to assist during the fall. To apply, call 334-549-4786. To sign up for travel ball, visit CLP's facility at 211 James Street in Downtown, Tallassee.
