Tigers pick up first win

By Michael Butler

Tallassee grabbed its first victory of the 2023 baseball season with a 10-5 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader with Alabama Christian on Thursday. It was the home opener for the Tigers at Southside. The Eagles won the first game 13-11.

It was the 317th win for head coach John Goodman at Tallassee but his first since moving back to the skipper's chair at the start of the season.

"On the win, I think I needed it as much as the kids did," Goodman said. "They have been so close, working so hard. They deserved it."

Tallassee (1-3) has lost three games by a combined five runs, including a 3-2 decision at the hands of LAMP on Saturday.

In game one against ACA, the Tigers made a comeback after falling behind 10-1 in the top of the second. It was 11-11 after five, reminiscent to the season-opening game with Montgomery Academy.

Stewart (1-0) picked up the win on the mound in game two working four innings and allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts and three walks. Carter Davidson set the stage as the starter pitching three innings. He allowed just one earned run while striking out seven and walking four.

Stewart, Mason and Rhodes had two hits each. Mason added three RBIs.
