Baseball Tigers lose series to Pike Road

By Michael Butler

The two top teams in Class 5A/Area 5 met in a series that took about a week to complete - well almost.

Pike Road (19-7/4-0) beat Tallassee (7-13-1/2-2) in the opening game of the set at Pike Road on Thursday by a 17-0 score in five innings. Elijah Bridgman garnered the Tigers' only two hits against starter Lucas Baggett, who picked up the win.

Friday's game in Tallassee was postponed due to rain. The same happened on Saturday.

Sunny skies prevailed for Monday's second makeup date as did the Patriots again in a 9-0 win at Tallassee's Southside Field. Clay Slage pitched all seven innings for Pike Road recording a one-hitter. Blake Smith had the lone THS base hit.

With Pike Road's sweep, it will be Tallassee and Beauregard playing for the runner-up spot on Thursday and Friday to determine the area's other state playoff qualifier.

Game one will be in Beauregard on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The Hornets and Tigers meet again on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Tallassee.
