Tigers win home opener

The Tallassee baseball team opened the season on a two-week road trip. The Tigers returned to the friendly confines of Southside Field for the home opener on Wednesday, March 7 vs. Valley with a 4-3 victory.

Parker Neighbors was the starter and did not figure into the decision. Neighbors went four innings allowing three runs (one earned) with five strikeouts and four walks. Beau Baker picked up the win in relief going 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout and a walk. Jake Burton got the win with 1 2/3 innings of work striking out the final four batters he faced.

Burton was 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored. Casey Baynes went 1-for-2. Tanner McNaughten was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

On Saturday, the Tigers continued the homestand with a doubleheader against Chilton County. The Tigers split the twin bill with a 7-2 loss in game one and a 4-3, nine-inning win in game two.

Chilton County put a five-spot on the board to break open a 2-2 game in the top of the seventh in game one. Blake Schwab (0-1) took the loss. Burton was 2-for-3. Zak Haynes went 1-for-3.

In the Tigers 4-3 victory in the second half of the DH, Baker (2-0) picked up the victory. Caleb Stewart, McNaughton and Haynes had hits for THS.

Tallassee will host Wetumpka at 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon for another doubleheader. 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM will broadcast live beginning at 4:00 with video coverage on Facebook Live.

The first area series of the season vs. Dadeville has been adjusted due to pending rain. Games are now scheduled for Thursday, March 15 at 4:30 in Dadeville and Friday, March 16 (DH) at 4:30 in Tallassee.
