THS boys win area tourney

By Michael Butler

Tallassee continued its late season run right t0 the area tournament championship last week in Dadeville. The Tigers extended their win streak to nine games and will now host the subregional round of the state playoffs.

"I'm super happy for our kids," Tallassee head coach Keiven Mixson said. "We continue to play good defense."

THS topped Alabama Christian on Wednesday 61-53 to advance to the title game. They then beat Dadeville on Saturday 53-46 to claim the championship.

"It's a great feeling," Mixson added. "I think they're starting to believe in themselves."

The first-year head coach also talked about the win streak.

"We've beaten some good teams," he said. "I give credit first off to God. I give credit to these kids for believing in me and the program. These kids want to win. I'm lucky to have them. They've been through a lot, having so many coaches come and go."

The Tigers are 15-11 overall and will host Sipsey Valley, the Class 4A/Area 7 runner-up. The Bears lost to Holt in the area championship game 71-52 last Wednesday.

The Tallassee girls season has ended. The Tigers came up short in the area tournament at Alabama Christian falling to Elmore County on Tuesday 47-41.
