Tallassee's 15u all-stars hope to reach the World Series like last year's 13-year-old squad

Two teams remain

By Michael Butler

The baseball all-star season rolls on for a couple of Tallassee teams. Both will be traveling out of state this week.

Tallassee's 10u team is on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi beginning action on July 14. The 15u squad is in Arkansas and starts play on July 15.

The 10u all-stars won the USSSA state silver division championship and will be among 15 teams in the field. There will be three pool-play games before seeding teams for bracketed matchups.

"We hope to be playing in the 'ship' come Sunday," head coach Brent Tennyson said. "There will be a gold and silver bracket. Pool play will decide that. There are some strong teams we will be playing. I feel we have a shot of making it deep into the tourney."

Tallassee's 10U USSSA All-Stars (front, left to right): Landyn Woodall, Caiden Hilyer, Elijah Watson, Maddox Tennyson, Bradley Meadows, Owen Johnson. Middle row (left to right): Johnathon Sears, Ben Speake, Brantley Hill, Bo Burton, Brady Barron. Top row (left to right): Coaches Brad Barron, Brent Tennyson, JW Hill, Jason Sears.

Tallassee's first opponent will be Morris on Thursday, July 14 at 12:30 p.m. The group will play two games on Friday vs. Chelsea at 9 a.m. and Aledo Orange at 12:30 p.m.

All pool play games for the 10u stars will be in D'Iberville, Miss.

"These young men have worked their tails off this summer and it shows," Tennyson added. "I'm very proud of their hard work and how far they have come in a short period of time. None of this is possible without the support of our community, coaches, parents and grandparents."

The community has stepped up to chip in as well for the 15-and-under all-stars as they did last year when Tallassee fielded two Babe Ruth teams. Coach Tommy Wisener took the 13-year-old all-stars to the World Series in Jamestown, NY. That team won its regional. That is the current quest for the coach and this team.

"We have found out Tallassee really loves its kids," Wisener said. "Just like last year when the 13 year olds went all the way to the World Series, we have been amazed at the support the town has given these kids. We want to thank everyone for the support. We'll try to go make the town proud."

Tallassee's 15U Babe Ruth All-Stars (front, left to right): Aidan Butler, Konner Taunton, Jack Butler, Mason Henderson, Bryson Rigsby, Brody Wisener, Avery Brantley. Top row (left to right): Kaden Peters, Bry Hathcock, Carter Sayers, Cash Gough, Cooper Hardin, Chase Webster, Baylor Clayton, Brody Smith.

The 15u team will be in Camden, Ark. and opens pool play on Friday, July 15. The field consists of five teams from Texas, Arkansas and Alabama.

Tallassee opens play vs. Wharton, Texas at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. They face host Camden at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Teams will be seeded for single elimination bracket play afterwards with the championship tentatively scheduled for Sunday.

"This group has worked really hard to get to where we are," Wisener added. "I think we will be able to compete really well in Arkansas."

Score 94.7/Hit 106.9 will have updates on Facebook and Twitter throughout both tournaments.
