New alignments set for next spring

By Michael Butler

The Alabama High School Athletic Association has released spring alignments for next two-year sports cycle. The Central Board of Control postponed a plan to transition to region play in baseball, softball and soccer citing the need for more research.

For Tallassee in those sports, there are changes for the upcoming 2023 and '24 seasons in Class 5A competition.

In baseball, last year's area champ Pike Road, which goes up a classification to 6A, and runner-up Beauregard move out of the area. Elmore County moves into the new three-team Area 4 with Brewbaker Tech and Tallassee.

The Tallassee softball team will compete in Area 4 with just one common opponent from last year - Beauregard. Elmore County and Valley join the four-team area.

The THS soccer team is in five-team Area 3. Area opponents will include Beauregard, Brewbaker Tech, Elmore County and Valley.

In golf and outdoor track, teams are placed in a sectional format. Tallassee is in Section 2 in both sports with 13 total teams in golf and 14 in track.

Tallassee's section partners are: Beauregard, Brewbaker Tech, Demopolis, Elmore County, Holtville, Jemison, John Carroll, Marbury, Ramsay, Shelby County, Sylacauga and Valley.

The teams in the Tigers' seciton in track include: Beauregard, Brewbaker Tech, Carroll, Charles Henderson, Elmore County, Eufaula, Headland, Marbury, Rehobeth, Shelby County, Sylacauga and Valley.

"I want to thank the Central Board and AHSAA staff for their dedicated effort and time put in and the recommendations they made," AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs said. "As always, it was a difficult job, but everyone worked together to find the best solution as we move forward."
