All-stars leave for New York this week

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee 13-year-old Babe Ruth all-stars played their most recent game on July 18. It was a 6-2 win in the Southwest Regional final over West Alabama in Demopolis. On Saturday, Aug. 14, the team opens pool play at the World Series in Jamestown, N.Y.

"The kids have worked really hard the past few weeks," head coach Tommy Wisener said. "It's been really hard with football practice starting. Some have had three practices a day, but the hay's in the barn now and it's time to go play."

The Southwest Region champs' first opponent will be Ohio Valley representative Eau Claire, Wis. The Ohio Valley covers seven states from Kentucky to Wisconsin, while Tallassee's region - the Southwest - encompasses seven states from Alabama to New Mexico.

Eau Claire beat Jeffersontown, Ky. 7-2 in their regional championship game to advance.

Tallassee plays Eau Claire at 2 p.m. Eastern/1 Central on the first day. On Sunday, Aug. 15 they face host team Jamestown at 7/6 p.m.

The team will venture to Cooperstown and the National Baseball Hall of Fame on their off day - Monday, Aug. 16.

On Tuesday, Aug. 17 Tallassee plays Pacific Southwest champ Kai, Hawaii at 5/4 p.m. The final day of pool play wraps on Wednesday, Aug. 18 with Tallassee playing Midwest Plains representative West Fargo, N.D.
