Babe Ruth squad 2nd at Regionals

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee Babe Ruth all-stars run has come to an end. The 15-and-under baseball bunch just missed advancing to the World Series.

Tallassee went 4-2 at the Pine Bluff, Ark. regional reaching the championship. Eagle Pass knocked out the Alabama state champs 13-0 on Monday afternoon and are headed to North Dakota.

"I'm very proud of this team for leaving it all on the field," head coach Justin Ellis said. "I hope they made the city proud."

Tallassee opened on Friday of last week with a 9-2 win over West Texas. They dropped their first game on Saturday to White Hall, Ark. 11-2. On Sunday, they fought their way through the losers' bracket with wins vs. Ozark Tri County, Ark. 16-0 and Plainview, Tex. 10-2 setting up a rematch with White Hall.

On Monday morning, Tallassee beat White Hall 10-7 to make it to the championship round. Undefeated Eagle Pass, Texas elminated the Tallassee boys to claim the trophy.

"A team like this may not have the most talent in the world," Ellis said, "but they've got desire to go out there and play baseball to win a championship. I'll take 13 kids with that attitude anyday."
