8U All-Stars

Girls are state runner-up

By Michael Butler

It's nothing to hang your heads over, unless you are talking about this group. The bar was high for the Tallassee 8U softball all-stars.

Many of these same girls played on the last two teams that hoisted state championship trophies. Some were members of last yea's World Series title team.

So, there was no solace in being second best in the state this year. The Tallassee girls still had a stellar run to the title game but came up short by a hair. There is no doubt that they'll be back.

Montgomery American had to beat Tallassee twice in the title tilt in Scottsboro. They did, 9-4 and 10-8.

Tallassee had won the previous three meetings by a combined score of 41-19. The girls had compiled a 12-0 record in the Dixie Youth sub-district, district and state tournaments leading into the championship.

Another World Series title will have to wait one more year. Most of the girls will remain at the 8U level in 2020.
