MCAC works on season schedule

By Michael Butler

The McCraney-Cottle Arts Council is piecing together its 2019-20 schedule. The season begins in a few months.

"McCraney will be doing the big gospel concert again in August," said Jerry Cunningham, MCAC executive director. "We had a full house last year. We've got the same involvement from a lot of the same people."

Cunningham said other annual events will return with some new twists.

"We'll be doing the Christmas program again this year and will be involving a children's choir," he said. "The gospel event will be at the Mount Vernon Theatre. The Christmas concert will be at the Tallassee High School Auditorium."

Missoula Children's Theatre also returns.

"It's always a big thing. If you can involve people, you get much more traction. The other thing I'm working on and haven't gotten finalized is getting a string quartet here. We'll probably do that at First United Methodist Church. We plan to do a '60s night in March at the theater. We'll have the art show again during Riverfest."

Cunnigham is working with the MCAC board on promoting season membership packages.

"That's something we'll be sending out in July," he added. "You're trying to find something that people will come to, but at the same time you want to bring in some different things."
