The Alabama Department of Transportation bid a painting and rehabilitation project on the Benjamin Fitzpatrick Bridge on Friday, June 24.
ALDOT received several bids and they will be reviewed to ensure its accuracy before granting final approval. Construction typically begins within two months after the contract is awarded. The project is expected to last approximately 16 months.
The Benjamin Fitzpatrick Bridge opened to traffic on Dec. 10, 1940. At 1,738 feet long, it is the 87th longest bridge in Alabama. It is the state’s highest bridge above water at a height of 143 feet above the Tallapoosa River.
ALDOT’s mission is to provide a safe, efficient, environmentally sound transportation network across Alabama.
