City
Property (10-27-09)
Since when did City Hall or the public
library or the Veterans Park become
CITY property? At what point did it
change from being PUBLIC PROPERTY
to CITY PROPERTY? And at what point
did the public lose their voice in
determining the actions taken on behalf
of OUR property? We bought and paid
for it , but anymore , it seems that
we have no sayso about it ,because
it went from being public property
to being CITY PROPERTY.That's one
sip of kool-aid that I'll pass on.Make
your own minds up when election time
comes around, till then ,live with
your decision from the last time you
voted, because the rest of us will

For
all the readers, families and friends
of more than 120 + players ages 6
– 13 in this league. (Give or
take a few) Way too many boys to mention
in the articles every week but boys
that want to play football and make
a difference in the games, make the
BIG play, practice 3 times a week,
play hard and study hard. Players
we couldn’t score or defend
the other team without. Not to forget
the wonderful “volunteer”
coaches & scores of parents that
put in long hours organizing, managing
and “encouraging” these
boys & girls. Super-terrific WONDERFUL
cheerleaders & their parents,
too!!! Come out and support these

Congratulations to Tallassee for a
great win over Valley. And an extra
big congratulations to the team, coaches,

discipline, class and upbringing in
the win. Maybe Valley can learn from
that positive example - John Sparks

Win Region (10-27-09)
I think the football team, cheer leaders
and band should be congratulated on
how they conducted themselves on Friday
night. After the way Valley behaved
last year and after some of the things
that happened at Fri. ballgame (ex.
their band playing while we had an
injured player on the field and their
football players celebrating at the
same time). I also want to congratulate
them for winning the region. It was
no doubt a joint effort and it was
nice of the football team to thank
the band for their support. I also
want to say thank you to all the fans
that made the trip. It makes you proud

________
Tallassee
vs. Valley (10-20-09)
I'm from Valley and I follow our high
school team and even sit in every
now and then when coaches are reviewing
game film and all. I'm not sure how
you guys beat Beauregard, but it was
obviously a fluke because from what
I've seen on film of your team, ya'll
ain't very good. Some of the coaches
have shook their heads and snickered
while watching the film of you guys
this week, only team they might have
hee hawed more about was that Ozark
team. Enrique Florence will be sending
this week's tape to several colleges
after he runs wild on your defense.
Defensive linemen with heads down
getting abused, linebackers out of
place looking lost and when they do
come up to make a tackle, it's just
an arm tackle. The defensive backs
look silly too. I still don't understand
why BTW did not throw the ball more
and waited until late in the game
to do it. No rush, no coverage. And
your offense is so one dimensional
and laughable too. And if you want
to call that an offensive line, I'd
call it a matador group, the way they
like to jump to the side and dance.
This game won't be close, don't bother
coming Tallassee fans. And to the
guy/gal that wrote about bringing
your own refreshments, that's about
like a bunch of rednecks. I hope you
do it and they take all your Pabst

they arrest you! I can't wait to hear

Tallassee
vs. Valley (10-20-09)
Tallassee and Valley have both outscored
opponents by 100 total points for
the season. Tallassee has scored 251
total points as compared to Valley's
186. Valley's
average score per game is 23.2 to
10.7. Tallassee's
is 31.3 to 18.8. Valley
has given up only 86 points to Tallassee's
151.
It
actually looks, on paper, that Tallassee
SHOULD win this game though I picked
Valley. If both Teams score their
average, we should be fine. For whatever
reason, I was thinking Valley's stats
were much more impressive than they
actually are - Jimmy Bright

I am proud of all the achievements

on the band...they have done more
than an outstanding job I do not think
people realize that Taboo (the opener)
is a very hard piece to play but yet
they play it so well! Those kids in
the band-the playing members- work
so hard to put on a good show and
I feel like sometimes they get over
looked I hope I do not offend any
one by saying this but we (the flags
and majorettes) could not get out
there and look as good as they do
with out the band!! So maybe next
time you pass a band kid at the ball
game tell them what a good job they
are doing. Proud supporter of the

Get Region Win Over Hornets (10-13-09)
This
will be a huge week for Tallassee
Football playing Valley. Our great
town has an opportunity to win a Region
Championship and the Tigers need everyones

to have the 12th man at Valley to

school will have spirit buses going
to Valley and at a price that will
allow every student to be there. We
need to get behind this strong program
the same way we did in the mid 80\'s.
We all remember the "I Believe"

2. Starting in 2012 make all students

3. Forget the stadium expansion and
just up-grade what needed, restrooms,

it compete at a more appropriate level

Do you think we should be without

Do you not think we have contributed

east side of town? What have you contributed

If you did, were you ever on the field?
I doubt it. Tallassee football would

Opinions
(10-6-09)
I've
enjoyed reading your opinion section
of the Tallassee Times for awhile
now. Several topics have raised my
interest, not known for holding my
tongue, I would like to address some
of these topics.
First, I was not present at the TYFL
junior game last weekend have no idea
how big or aggressive the Holtville
team was. I do however applaud the
coaches for making a decision they
believed was in the best interest
of the safety of the children. I myself
coach youth in multiple sports and
I have seen first hand grown men trying
to relive or compensate for their
youth experiences at the expense of
our children. These "coaches"
develop tunnel vision and forget they
are dealing with mentally and physically
underdeveloped adolescents. Our kids
are to important for us to allow someone
to force a "win at all cost"
mentality upon them. there is a time
to retreat to fight another day.
In dealing with the International
Building Codes as it pertains to Tallassee.
I work in construction and am very
familiar with the
plumbing code. The State of Alabama
adopted the International Codes Sections
after the Southern Codes became obsolete.
It is my belief that if a municipality
does not have an ordinance related
to the life safety issues within its
jurisdiction, the States statutes
covers as an umbrella. It is also
my belief that a municipality can
adopt regulatory codes governing its
jurisdiction but, they must be equal
to or greater than those adopted by
the State. Please correct me if I
am wrong.
As a transplant t Tallassee, I have
come to love this town and its people.
I do however see homes and former
businesses in such disrepair, they
should have been torn down long ago.
the property value alone is worth
more without the structures and would
have more curb appeal for future investors.
Expansion; some want it some don't.
Do I want Tallassee;s growth to spiral
out of control like Auburn, Prattville,
and East Montgomery? No. But I do
want a steady, consistent growth that
would create a better quality of life
for my children and neighbors. "
If you build it they will come."
We need t be ready for that contingency.
The annex of Hwy 229 to the Interstate
should be a priority for our city
leaders and all those that wish to
be incorporated into the city limits
need to be allowed to do so. yes,
some will balk at the idea, but once
Tallassee's population exceeds 10,000,
government grants and loans will become
many times more accessible. Allowing
the city increase services and recruit
corporations to locate here. The increase
in the tax base wouldn't hurt either.
Now for my final rant. I can not for
the life of me understand why Tallassee
feels the need for a multi million
dollar Recreation Center. Just because
Community Hospital will donate land
for the project doesn't mean its in
the best interest of the city. has
anybody seen this plot of land? It
would take at least two million dollars
just to get the property suited for
construction of this elaborate building.
that;s if ADEM allows the redirection
of the natural drainage. Don't get
me wrong, we desperately need a new
facility. Ive seen the proposed drawings
and it has something for everyone,
from a bowling ally to a swimming
pool, it has it all...for a price.
I think the city leaders may want
to rethink this whole idea and try
to live within our means.
The city owns 85 acres along 229 that
is flat and pretty much ready for
construction. Yes, its in flood plain,
but so is over half of the city limits.
Using this location and designing
a facility that allows for expansion
can save the city at least 4 million
dollars initially. I know not all
will agree with me but, I had some
spare time and something on my mind.
Thank you for listening.
