Meaning
of Memorial Day (5-25-10)
I
agree with you Mr. Tradewell. The
holiday has turned into a cookout, beer, and
going to the lake day. Veterans come
in many forms not only soldiers who
have died but are living too. Many
are forgotten,homeless, and did not
or are not getting the help they need
after serving. Most forget about the
veterans who served in Korea and Vietnam.
Most don't know when these wars were
even fought. Putting the flag up or
a bumper sticker on your car is not
enough. Visit these men and women
and listen to them. Give to the VFW
and other organizations that support
them. Press your congressmen and congresswomen
to increase the funds for the VA.Don't
take just lip service from them. Every
politican loves to say "We or
I support the troops." I know
how they are treated. The pay is low, they
have to pay for medical insurance,
tours extended involuntarily,not recieving
the best medical care after being
injured. But, the worst offense of
all is being sent to wars on lies
and unlawful ones. They do the job
most congresspeople and senators wouldn't
send their kids to do.So get involved
and lets bring our troops home, care
for them properly without regards
to money, and that includes all veterans
of all wars and veterans who served
but, didn't have to fight. If we can
find the money to send a stupid robot
to mars, then by God where is the
money and time for these Americans.I
served 6 years in the U.S.Army in
the late 80's and early 90's and I
speak from experience.Sorry, but some
things have to be said - Byron

Just
in general thoughts pondered by myself
and others (5-25-10)
Why is it that we no longer have a
talla-hi-newspaper with all the school
events and such?? The tallassee tribune
is filled each week with nothing but
school events instead of local happenings
like it should be..Are we that small
of a town that we have to relate to
school happenings just to have enough
news events to print a town paper???
And also, how can tallassee ever get
ahead when each time we gain a new
business ; we lose one or two... such
as the new jacks but losing the movie
gallery. We have lost the KFC and
Taco Bell and even before the fire
burnt our hotel; they had shut the
restaurant down there as well.. We
lost a very nice mexican restaurant
that had family karoke on thursdays
to the new one by superfoods and it
just goes on and on.. Tallassee will
never grow as I have seen it since
I was kid and when I am 100 years
old if I live that long, I will almost
bet my life it will still be the same
so we will never have good job opportunities
for our children. We have a great
school : one of the best but as soon
as people graduate then tallassee
will never see more than 5 % of them
every again... To me that is very
disappointing because we have nothing
to offer as a future so tallassee
is mainly just a retirement community
and thats what it will always be sadly

can we expect the athletes to do any
better than the example being set

Council
Square (5-25-10)
When
reporting on the Council's actions,
it would be helpful to readers to
know at least some of the highlights
of those actions. For example, it
would be helpful to know what the
old "copy" fees were, and
what the new fees would be. Too, it
would be good to know the essence
of the Water Pollution Report---a
sentence or two giving the gist of
the document would suffice. Who submitted
the report, and are we over or under
pollutted? I understand space constraints,
but the essentials won't take that
much room - W. C. Bryant

Council

Isn't
the council square article a summary
of the council meeting? If you want
the details of the meeting, I believe
that you should attend the meeting
rather than criticizing the council
person writing the article. I appreciate
being kept informed, but also understand
that the city council members have
more important items to address than
to give a detailed report of the city
council meeting to those who did not
attend.

a very smart aleck type response.
Simply asking for a little more detail
is not a bad thing at all. Afterall,
do the council members not serve the
community? Yes,the council member
is doing this as a service, but to
simply ask for a little more detail
is not putting a person out at all
in my opinion. And some citizzens
are not able to attend the council
meeetings for various reasons, that
does not mean that they missed out
and should not be informed of the
happaenings of the community. As a
public servant they should not simply
write this off as an unimportant item
because keeping the constituents informed
is very vital. A little more detail
would be a good thing because it is
public knowledge and not private as
some government officials might think
it is and try to run a a governmental
entity as if it is privately owned

Mount
Vernon Theater (5-25-10)
Michael...Boy
was I glad to see the story about
the old Mt. Vernon Theater being brought
back to life. The story in our family
was that my maternal grandfather,
Lige Golden, owned the theater at
one time but lost it during the Great
Depression. I never checked the story's
authenticity but even more important
are the fond memories of Saturday
afternoons in the 1950's spent there
as a kid.
I had to cut the grass Saturday mornings
before I could go the the movie that
afternnon. I'd pray for rain every
Friday night. Sometimes it worked!
It was usually a Cowboy Western double
feature. For 45-cents you could spend
an afternoon in entertainment heaven...25-cents
for your ticket and the rest for candy,
popcorn, whatever. That was the good
life.
When she reopens, you can bet I'll
be back. This fine old lady will awaken
again and open her doors to new generations
of memory makers and to those who
already have an emotional stake in
her existence. 'Can't wait! - Craig

I wanted to thank you for making the

I missed it yesterday a.m. and caught

conducted a very methodical and thorough
interview. I really enjoyed it. Thanks

partner for the city of Tallassee
in this endeavor. I was impressed
and motivated. Thanks again - Ben

__________
Tom
Bolton Interview (5-18-10)
If I'm not mistaken, I heard Tom Bolton
say in the interview that the first
thing to happen is that the "community
needs to come up with $100,000".
Ok, did I hear that correct? So, does
that sound wierd to you? What happens
when the community comes up with the
money, and then the "plans"
don't work out? Where did that money
go? Who will get their money back
when it doesn't work out? What is
going on? On the positive note, if
the "plans" do work out.
Does that mean that everyone who contributes
to the $100,000 has Ownership in the
project? Tallassee and surrounding
areas need alot more questions answered
on this project. Believe me, I am
all for beautification of this entire
town and can't wait for some type
of development to come here. I just
don't want our citizians to be taken
for a loop. In all the other places
I have lived, when someone comes to
town and wants to build something,
they usually have thier own funding,
and or the city gives them incentives
to want to do thier project in that
town. Not ask the citizens to come
up with money for them - just
saying
__________
Tom
Bolton Interview (5-18-10)
I would like to respond to the comment
posted by "just saying"
regarding my recent interview on WTLS:
Yes
sir I did say that the community will
need to come up with approximately
$100,000.00 for preliminary engineering
and analysis on the West Bank project.
No it does not sound weird to people
that understand business investment
and know that in order to make money
you have to spend or invest money.
Here's why I don’t think its
weird:
My
company is willing to invest over
60 million dollars in Tallassee on
the east bank project if the City
will work with us and help create
an environment in the community that
will attract new people to live in
Tallassee. Since no one, to my knowledge,
has come up with a plan - I did at
no charge to the city or the community.
I have given them a plan and a path
forward on how to achieve it. Remember
now that its free advice - so please
take it for what its worth.
It
involves creating a RiverFront Park
on the West Bank - that would be owned
by the community and operated by the
community. All revenue generated by
this park would go to the community.
Included revenue streams would be
income from a hotel, a conference
center, an amphitheater and all of
the other attractions as we outlined
in the plans, that we paid for at
our expense, and presented to the
community back in March.
This
development would make Tallassee a
"destination attraction"
and create multiple jobs and opportunities
for local businesses and townspeople.
It would also generate significant
additional sales and use taxes as
well as increase property values in
the entire area. Once this project
is underway and it can be seen by
outsiders that Tallassee is serious
about community redevelopment then
I can go to the money market and attract
investors for our project on the East
Bank which is at the least 3 times
larger than the City's side. Serious
investors are hard to convince in
these economic times and they want
to see if the community is going to
have an active stake in this project
or not before investing in Tallassee.
I don’t think you can blame
them for that.
I
have to date made 81 trips to Tallassee
and met with local officials and townspeople
on 98 occasions. I have been to Tallassee
3 times this week and its only Wednesday.
No one has paid me a dime nor have
I asked to be compensated. I am doing
this because of what I see as potential
in this community. Potential to transform
a town and to do a development that
that I believe could be truly groundbreaking
and record setting. The location and
the resources are all here. Its potentially
that big and could be that pivotal
with respect to Tallassee's future
as a viable community. Al we need
now is the fortitude to step up and
do it.
Now
as to your specific questions I welcome
the opportunity to answer them individually
:
First
question : "What happens when
the community comes up with the money,
and then the "plans" don't
work out?" The community is out
the money- just like I am if the City's
project doesn’t succeed and
subsequently ours doesn’t either.
For your information I have already
invested more than this amount in
this endeavor to date. Everyone loses
-if we don’t succeed. You can
always choose to do nothing and things
can continue as they are.
Second
Question : "Where did that money
go?" If the City Council and
Mayor deem it appropriate then it
will be authorized and spent by your
City Council and will go for the typical
preliminary expenses you incur when
considering a project of this nature:
Items like engineering - environmental,
structural, geo-technical and civil.
Architectural expenses to develop
schematic drawings with which we can
accurately assess the cost of the
project. These are the major components
we have identified to date and the
firms we are working with are reputable,
independent, professional, licensed
and insured. None of this money is
being paid to myself or any company
with which I am affiliated.
Third
Question: "Who will get their
money back when it doesn't work out?"
No one. With respect to these expenses
once the money has been appropriated,
the work done and invoices paid for
professional services rendered there
will be no getting your money back.
You will have paid for a service and
gotten what you paid for. If you decide
then not to proceed with the project
you will still have the benefit of
these services and the project would
be "shovel ready" so you
are really not out any money if you
look at it from a business perspective.
Fourth
Question: "What is going on?"
I would respond by saying that American
free enterprise and the spirit of
entrepreneurship is what is going
on here. Its what needs to go on if
we are going to move this community
ahead. If one waits on the government
or someone else to step up and redevelop
Tallassee then I am afraid you are
going to be waiting for a long long
time and be deeply disappointed. We
have to do this ourselves. We have
to make an investment in our future.
Is it a risk? Yes it is - but then
if we don’t believe on ourselves
and our community, who will? Will
it cost us some money?- yes it will,
but it could cost Tallassee a whole
lot more if we do nothing. The choice
is yours and the time to make that
choice is now.
Fifth
Question: "On the positive note,
if the "plans" do work out.
Does that mean that everyone who contributes
to the $100,000 has Ownership in the
project?" The community will
own the project- 100% of it. It cant
get much better than that.
I
want you to understand that I appreciate
and understand healthy skepticism.
Its good to raise questions and get
them answered. Keep them coming -
or if you like -call me directly at
my office or on my cell or even send
me an e-mail and I assure you I will
respond.
Tallassee
is well worth it and I am happy to
answer any question and/or help in
any way that I can. Understand however
that this is not my project. Yes it
was my dream and vision - but the
West Bank Project (Heritage RiverFront
Park) is the City of Tallassee's project.
That’s the way it should be.
Thank
you for allowing me to respond - Tom
Bolton
__________
Tom
Bolton Interview (5-18-10)
From my understanding, when an Authority
is established such as the Industrial
Development Board, that Authority
is able to float municipal bonds.
If the project does not work out,
then someone has to pay the money
back, i.e., the taxpayers. (Please
correct me if I'm wrong.) Therefore,
a Downtown Redevelopment Authority
would be able to float bonds for this
project. $100,000 is just the beginning
of what we will have to spend for
all this investment and growth. Will
it come from government grants? Sure
they are out there but how readily
available are they? Will it come from
new taxes? Will some investors come
in and help? I hope it all works.
I believe this is a very involved,
long project we are undertaking
- skeptical but optomistic at
the same time
__________
Tom
Bolton Interview (5-18-10)
First of all Mr. Bolton ,I would rather
address you in a public forum rather
than a private e-mail.I would first
like to thank you for your investment
in time and resources to help our
city to improve.There are ,however,
a few points regarding your post on
this website that I ,personally would
like a bit of clarification on.In
your post you wrote "My company
is willing to invest over 60 million
dollars in Tallassee on the east bank
project if the City will work with
us and help create an environment
in the community that will attract
new people to live in Tallassee. Since
no one, to my knowledge, has come
up with a plan - I did at no charge
to the city or the community. I have
given them a plan and a path forward
on how to achieve it. Remember now
that its free advice - so please take
it for what its worth. "
Thank you for the offer of your 60
million dollars into our beloved city.I
assume that you are a businessman
and not a philanthropist and you intend
to make a profit from that investment
which I have absolutely no problem
with whatsoever.Opportunity naturally
breeds investment, it's the capitalistic
way.
Your answer to the fifth question
is the one that puzzles me the most.
"Fifth Question: "On the
positive note, if the "plans"
do work out. Does that mean that everyone
who contributes to the $100,000 has
Ownership in the project?" The
community will own the project- 100%
of it. It cant get much better than
that. "
Exactly how will our community own
it 100% when you yourself said that
your company was willing to invest
60 million dollars into it? This I
have a problem understanding.Does
that mean that the city government
will directly benefit from this in
the form of bigger beauracracy and
more controls? Community property
and city property have replaced "Public
Property" the last time I checked. Will
each citizen own a shared interest
in this and recieve a form of compensation
just simply for being a "citizen
owner"? A little clarification
would go a long way ,I think on explaining
this generalistic terminoligy I look
forward to your public reply.Seems
to me like you're putting the cost
of the initial cost assessment of
viabitlity on the citizens of Tallassee
to justify your investment. I truly
hope this project comes about and
does great things for this town ,
but on the other hand I would like
to know more specifics,after all,we
have our congressmen and women voting
for or against bills that they have
never even read and understood - Derrick
Hartley
__________
Tom
Bolton Interview (5-18-10)
Mr. Hartley;
I will address you in any venue you
prefer- be it public or private- I
have no problem with either. With
respect to your question it is apparent
you do not have a clear understanding
of the project or projects. That’s
perhaps my fault and I will try and
address it again here for you. I am
sorry for the confusion.
There
are 2 projects - one is on the west
bank and one is on the east bank.
The
East Bank is my project if you will
- and its private. We are not asking
you or the community to invest in
it. We are willing to invest a whole
lot more in our property if and when
it becomes apparent to us and to our
financial people that it is a good
investment. Currently given Tallassee's
state of the city it is not feasible
or advisable to do so. So we looked
at how we could change that fact and
make it a good investment. The way
I see doing that is to develop the
other side of the river "the
West Bank" if you will, into
a "Destination Attraction"-to
give people a reason to come to Tallassee.
The property does not belong to us.
It belongs to the City, the Alabama
Power Company, the Tallassee Historical
Preservation Authority and the Chamber
of Commerce. Our idea was the Heritage
Riverfront Park Development which
has been presented at the Town Hall
meeting and to the various property
owners who are directly affected by
it.
The
"West Bank" project would
the City's project. If the community
chooses to proceed with its development
then it will be wholly owned by the
Tallassee Redevelopment Authority-
which is a entity or arm of the City
of Tallassee- just as is your Industrial
Development Board. All improvements
and assets on this west bank side
will belong to this entity. Thus my
earlier response when I said the City
would own it. I said it because its
true.
With
respect to the question you raised
about a bigger beauracracy and more
controls - I am afraid I don’t
understand the question. The city
government will not need a bigger
beauracracy or more controls- the
development will be managed by the
Tallassee Redevelopment Authority.
My idea was for the Chamber of Commerce
which represents the business community
to take a leadership role in the management
of this park and its assets- but again
that is just my opinion - it is not
my decision to make.
With
respect to my putting the cost of
the initial assessment of economic
viability of my project on the people
of Tallassee to justify my investment
I take strong issue with that. I have
been up front with the people of this
community from Day 1 - I said that
it would take a public and private
partnership. Where I come from, that’s
2 or more groups working together
and trusting each other , sharing
a common goal and working in unison
towards that goal. If this Community
doesn’t want to take steps to
improve itself and its future then
don’t expect outsiders, much
less the government to do it for you.
If the citizens of Tallassee don’t
have faith in their community then
how can you expect others to? I also
have said that personal agendas and
egos needed to be put aside and we
all had to work together.
Mr.
Hartley, I don’t need or want
you or anyone else to pay for my project.
I haven't asked you or anyone to do
that. Once we decide to move forward
with our project, we can handle that
without you, thank you very much.
I
don’t even have to be here -
I can certainly go somewhere else
- and frankly if your opinion is representative
of the community's , perhaps I need
to. I don’t have to drive 80
plus miles from home to have my motives
and integrity questioned.
The
fact is I am working now to try and
find the funds needed to complete
this initial stage on the West Bank
for Tallassee since grant monies are
not readily available. Why don’t
you join me in trying to raise this
money? I invite you to. I truly believe
the majority of this community wants
to grow and succeed - I hope you do
as well and if not I hope we can work
to change your mind - Tom Bolton

Are you people out of your mind? What's
with all the shots at Mr. Bolton?
I hope he doesn't get the wrong impression
about the folks of the Tallassee area.
Some of us do have IQ's above double
digits. We should be thanking our
lucky stars that this man is trying
to help. That is what he's attempting
to do.
I
understand that if the city steps
up on the west side, that it will
make it worth Bolton and KMAC's efforts
on the east side. Mr. Bolton is taking
a lot of his time (as he noted) to
work with the community on getting
the ball rolling. The ball has been
buried for a long time now (probably
underneath the caved in roof of that
old mill).
Skepticism
is expected. This is a big undertaking.
I'm sure many of those that are saying
this can't happen are some of the
ones who have griped that nothing
has happened. If you want to see Tallassee
thrive and prosper, get behind Bolton
and make it happen. Make a donation.
The investment will be worth more
than "ownership" of the
property. You'll have a sense of pride
for your town. If this development
comes together, we'll all be thanking
Bolton and company for not only their
vision, but their contribution as
well - Conway Jennings

Mr. Bolton ,
Thank you for personally addressing
me , I really do appreciate that.
Let me say that I did not imply or
did not mean to imply that there was
anything wrong with your plans.I simply
wanted a clarification of a few terms
that you mentioned. You have satisfied
that and more and again,I thank you
for that.Really the main point that
I was asking for clarification on
was "100% community owned".I
want Tallassee to grow and prosper
as much as the next citizen ,but I
do reserve the right to ask questions
about it's direction when it is laid
out to me.Now I know that 100% community
owned means 100% City Government owned,
that was the main gist of my post.I
think that Tallassee welcomes your
ideas and investment as do I,and if
I can be of help ,I will most certainly
be there to help in anyway that I
can. I would also like to add , I
thank you for your interest in our

for the betterment of it. You said
healthy skepticism was welcome, then
I assume you are a man of your word.
Thank you for your time Mr. Bolton

__________
Tom
Bolton Interview (5-18-10)
It's the age old question. What came
first. The chicken or the egg? I am
anything but a visionary, however
in my lifetime I have observed a lot
in my now 53 years.
Upon seeing the Great Falls of Tallassee
for the first time,Alexander McGillvrey,
the Muscogee Chief and British agent
reported the potential for a great
industry and settlement here. Within
a period of some 50-60 years later,
Tallassee Falls Manufacturing was
realized. Now some 160 years later,
Tallassee has come "Full Circle".
During my short tenure with the THPS
12 years ago, the consensus of many
people (not all) towards the preservation
and restoration of the Armory and
Mills was that of apathy. Although
most people in the town spent their
entire careers with the Mills, many
of them felt they were trapped. One
example of this was in 1980, I had
taken a job with the Mill to draw
plans to modernize and replace the
old equipment in the Mills. On the
first morning I arrived, I was greeted
with the comment " What in the
@#$! are you doing here?" Upon
explaining to this person my intentions,
he then replied " If you have
any sense at all, you'd turn around
and walk back out the door you came
in and never come back." I will
never forget those words.
Over my lifetime, I have seen Tallassee
go from being the largest town in
Elmore County, to being ranked only
ahead of Eclectic. Many reasons have
contributed to the towns demise. As
with any business endeavor, the 3
most important is factors are Location,
Location, Location. With the Interstate
system and other U.S Corridors, Tallassee
was left out of the loop. The reality
is that to get to any place of interest
and destination, Tallassee is not
along that route. Even history suggests
that Wilson Raiders were unable to
even find the Armory to destroy it.
Many people, including myself chose
to reside and work in other places
besides Tallassee.
Even with the close proximity to Montgomery,
for Commerce and Industry to be realized,
the Infrastructure is a major factor.
For decades, the infrastructure in
Tallassee has been inadequate to support
this type of growth. Other things
like Schools, Hospitals and Recreation
are other important elements to the
Infrastructure. For decades too, The
Tallassee City Schools and the Doctors
in the Community have been the few
redeeming qualities.
Now the City of Tallassee has been
bestowed with the"vision"
of Tom Bolton. Whether if people agree
or disagree with Mr.. Bolton's motives,
Tallassee will continue to decline
until the people of Tallassee are
WILLING to chance such endeavors.
The willingness to support such endeavors
may be the most important of all the
factors involved. To bear fruit, seeds
must be planted.
Mr.. Bolton has offered a vision.
Are his motives "pure"?.....Only
Mr.. Bolton knows the answer to that.
It is not our place to presume we
know. Regardless of the motives, I
feel that Tom's question to the community
is simply that he is like all of us,
we are no better than our supporting
cast.
Is Tallassee prepared to be a supporting
cast whether it's Mr.. Bolton or anyone
else? Does anyone in the Community
at any level or status have their
own ideas for growth and betterment
of the Community...... I know of at
least a few that want the best for
the Community. Perhaps their hard
work and efforts will pay dividends
someday soon.
For those "not so happy"
about Mr.. Bolton coming from another
town to pursue this endeavor, We as
a Community have have to ask ourselves
this question. Has the City of Tallassee
put itself in a position for others
to come into this town to benefit?
If so, perhaps we should re-evaluate
our own inventory instead of taking
Mr. Bolton's - Bobby Dennis

Property
Owners of Rental Property (5-11-10)
As long as I have lived in Tallassee
there has always been a problem with
the property owners maintaining their
rental property. It has gotten out
of control now though. The citizens
of Tallassee need to come together
and fight the situation. I know you
can not pick and chose to whom they
rent to but they can make them make
the property a clean place. It appears
all they are concerned with is collecting
a check each month. If they were to
put the property beside their own
home I bet they wouldn’t look
like they do. The city should be able
to fine the owners after two times
of contact instead of a slap on the
hand. Tallassee is going to the dogs.
It is a shame that you work all of
your life to make a home nice and
the rest of the neighborhood goes
to pot. There is no excuse for it.
TV’s, couches and other items
that belong inside the house do not
belong on the front porch. If the
property owners do not want to take
responsibility, don’t buy the
property when it comes up for sale.
Ricky Benton has done an excellent
job in his district. It’s a
shame the other members of the council
don’t do more in their area
to make them presentable. I am not
saying buy up property, just take
an interest in the area they campaign

I agree with “tired of living
in disgrace” 100 percent. The
owners of this rental property would
do well by his renters to use some
of the rent money to at least make
their home a nice place to live. It
would also be nice if the renters
would keep their yards clean, cut
grass, pick up trash and etc. My property
value is going down while the owners
of rental property are more worried
about collecting the rent money then
providing a decent place for people
to live. It seems they do not have
very much pride and really do no care
how our town looks. They is a lot

I
think this is a start on supporting
the families of fallen soldiers, but
if we really want to support them
then start paying them better. Give
them free medical services like I
had when I served. Cut out all the
red tape when it comes to disability
claims,both physical and mental. But
foremost bring the soldiers home and
quit sending them to bogus wars. The
recent terrorist attack in New York
shows us you don't need a country
as a base to plan these things. These
"Terrorist" we are fighting
in Afghanistan are the same ones we
helped finance, train, and supported

Center Upgrade (5-11-10)
I
am 36 years old and lived in Tallassee
for 33 of my 36 years, I lived in
Montgomery for 3 but came back home.
I have seen alot in this town NOT
change and NOT progress and I think
it is time for everyone, young and
old, to get on board and back the
plans, hopes, dreams, and progression
towards a vibrant community. I don't
have all the answers and I am sure
Mayor McCain and Tom Bolton don't
either, but they are trying. I support
the football expansion, the Mill plans,
and retail growth. I believe these
will appeal to people that are considering
moving to Tallassee. The additional
seating will also help present businesses
and new restaurant businesses that
are wanting to serve those fans in
the extra seats. In my humble opinion,
I believe that any retailer or restaurant
that is considering coming to Tallassee,
to the Mill Project, will be attracted
by the thought of 3500 to 5000 fans
on a Friday night coming to eat and
shop or even stay the night in their
facilities. Another consideration
is for the economic stimulation that
will occur once deconstruction begins
and then translates to the remodeling
and construction phase of the projects.
Consider this, Tallassee has a stadium
that is a jewel and a team that travels
very well plays us, that game is most
likely a sell out, the revenue will
be substantial and peoples eyes will
be opened to Tallassee and the opportunities
that exist here. The fields are built
down by the Airport and the Mill project
comes to fruition then everyone leaving
the games from the fields will be
going by the Mill and all the vendors
that will occupy the facility. My
main point is that Tallassee is a
beautiful place that does have it's
problems but it has so much potential,
let's all come together and support
growth, beautification, and progression.
We have so many people working in
Tallassee but living in Auburn or
Montgomery and they support their
hometowns but wouldn't it be great
for them to support Tallassee and

To
still pondering... If you would talk
to the past building inspectors you
would find out that everything that
needed to be done and is in their

without a personal assistant. Since
hiring the current inspector and his
assistant many of the things around
Tallasse that fall under that department
and jurisdiction are finally being
taken care of. The inspectors we had
before were good guys but the workload
was entirely too much for one person.
Also as far as the mayor goes there
is finally a mayor in office that
actually is trying to better Tallassee

than occupy an office. Is it really
that big of a deal that he has lights

I
just don't understand how people can
comment about things and call people
idiots and then they don't have the
nerve to sign their name to their
comment. If you are going to accuse
people of doing things and call them
names then be grown-up enough to leave
your name. This is all so very childish
in the first place. Who threw this
game, what coach said this, who said
that. These are children, let them
be kids. Yes my husband is hard on
our son at times but he is not the
only one, there is a huge percentage
of parents and coaches that are hard
on their kids. We just want him to
give 100% and do his best, but to
also have fun while doing it. As for
the person trying to start a fight
with the coach, if you are referring
to my husband please get the facts
straight before you talk about something.
He was only commenting along with
all the other spectators on that side
of the fence that night when the coach
looked at him and told him to zip
his mouth. The last time I checked
freedom of speech was allowed, so
if you want to tell one person to
shut up tell them all to shut up.
That same coach came into our dugout
after we played the BlueClaws and
was talking trash about throwing the
game and all. Sometimes I think these
coaches are trying to carry out their
dreams that didn't come true through
their kids. Let the kids play ball
and have a good time. Enough with
all the negativity that goes on around
there. Also as for staying around
to watch a game that your child is
not playing in, I don't believe there
is a rule that says you can't watch
another game, and a lot of times we
have friends that have kids playing
in other games and we are going to
stay and watch them. Trust me we are
not the only ones that hang around
to watch another game. Most of the
coaches come to watch other games
and so do a lot of the parents. So
please try to find something else
to occupy your time and leave the
kids and baseball alone, let them

no Tony, you're not the only one,

Well,
I do support my husband because he
is my husband and you are supposed
to stand beside your mate. As for
him being referred to as Mrs.G, well
at least he had enough guts to sign
his name to his comment unlike you
other people who are so quick to talk
and put some one down but at the same
time are too much of a coward to put
your name to your words. As for him
being the "head idiot" I
beg to differ there because there
are many more that act a lot worse
than he does at the ball field,so
grow up and act like you are the parent
and not the kid. This has really gotten
ridiculous, let the kids play ball
and we as parents should just stay
out of it and let the coaches deal
with their team. If you feel like
you have something to say to me then
feel more than welcome to come to
me in person and say it, I'm at the
ball field every weekend. Thanks and
have a great day! - Michele Gioiosa

Dixie
Youth (5-4-10)
Lately
there has been a lot of negativity
swirling around the Dixie Youth fields.
As the single mother of a seven year
old playing in the league for the
first time, I would like to share
my experiences this year.
Since
my son was 18 months old, he and I
have only had each other. I am a sports
fanatic, and I love watching sports;
however, I have no clue how to teach
a child to play sports. Without the
influence of a strong male role model,
my son and I have just had to do the
best we can do.
Drew
is not the most athletic person in
the world, and he doesn't learn the
game as fast as others. But, my son
works hard and gets upset on days
when he doesn't have baseball practice
because he loves the game so much.
In
every practice and in every game,
I have witnessed the extreme patience
of his coaches Scott Justice, Josh
Cullars, and Phil Hudson. These men
have corrected Drew when he needed
it, disciplined him when he needed
it, and praised him at every moment
possible. With this encouragement,
my son has come up with clutch hits
to help his team and has made plays
in the field to hold runners from
reaching home.
Many
of you have screamed that this town
is full of "daddy ball."
Well I challenge you to step into
my and my son's world for a moment...my
child doesn't have a father at home.
The only lessons on becoming an athlete,
on becoming a man comes from the coaches
he is blessed to work with each season.
They have treated my son the same
way they have treated their own sons,
and for that compassion I am thankful.
Most
of the men who work with these kids
have the best intentions where their
TEAMS are concerned. We should thank
them for taking time away from their
own families to spend time mentoring
ours. Sincerely - Shannon Baker

National
day of prayer (5-4-10)
America
was formed from christians but the
founding were by far secularist who
sought to keep religion out of politics
and that constitutional rights were
universal rights that had nothing
to do with religion. Thomas Jefferson,Ben
Franklin etc. America was an mercantile
country built on individual rights
and sought to keep a divideing issue
as religion out. Religion must never
be a deciding factor on what America
does nationally and internationally.
When we appeal to our basic human
nature can most problems be solved
without the interference of who beliefs
are true.Action,will,fortitude and
hard work solves problems not prayer
- Byron Burnett
__________
National
day of prayer (5-4-10)
Sorry
to hear that Mr Burnett.
I
think the lack of prayer may not be
working out quite the way some thought.
Our human nature? You have got to
be kidding! Fortitude, will and the
overall spirit of our society has
been compromised because of individuals
who have done exactly what you are
suggesting. "Basic human nature"
has led to the idea of "taking
care of myself" and not worrying
about the cause and effect it has
on others. Stealing, cheating, taking
advantadge of those less powerful
are just a few of these "basic
human nature" qualities, which
ultimately is survival, I hope to
avoid.
I
really hope and PRAY that there is
only a small portion of society and
more importantly our town that feels
like Prayer is a waste of time.
It
was mentioned that prayer doesn't
solve problems and that is correct.
Prayer does however take our desires,
fears and concerns to the Lord who,
himself is desiring nothing more than
to intercede on our behalf. Prayer
also gives us an opportunity to thank
God and praise him for the things
he has done in our lives, but if the
view is that one's "hard work,
will, etc." is the reason for
their success then the day will come
when they realize their mistake -
Help us God

much as Tallasseans pray, you'd imagine

First
of all “Church and Prayers”
are needed. One day you will need
both and will be glad there are Christians
in Tallassee to pray for your needs.
Second,
the person doing a cool 40 than ran
over one of God’s creatures
could have probably missed him. It
is not the tire tread they need to
be wary of.
Like
it or not people are praying for you
both. Have a wonderfully blessed day
and please visit a church of your
choice this Sunday - I Rodgers
__________
National
day of prayer (5-4-10)
While
the opinions of those NOT inclined
to observe the National Day of Prayer
cause me to shudder for them, I have
to admit that they have truly spoken
from their heart. The problem I see
lies not with their opinions, but
with the heart of their expression.
By the grace of God they have been
allowed to live in a country in which
they are free to express themselves
and their opinions. They have chosen
to express that freedom in ways that
do nothing to build up fellow Americans
that are full of "action, will,
fortitude, and hard work" but
who also recognize their own weakness
and need to pray. Regardless of the
intent of the founding fathers of
this country (which is way too much
discussion for an opinion page), the
fact is that today there are real
live Americans that choose to pray.
Actually there are lots of us and
we choose to pray and we choose to
spend much time in church. We also
choose to pay taxes, perform community
service, and participate civically.
With this in mind I would ask Mr.
Burnett why his view of a Christian
American's interaction in society
is more valid than mine. Why does
his freedom to NOT pray outweigh my
freedom TO pray. Are we not both Americans
with the same freedom?
For
the individual identified as "There's
more to life than church," I
would ask for evidence that the condition
of Tallassee would be better without
the prayers of Tallasseans. You speak
in terms that thankfully cannot be
supported because of the afore mentioned,
almost-constant barrage of prayers
by Christians. Where would this city
be economically, morally, or socially
if everyone held your viewpoint? Thankfully
we will never know as long as there
are Christians in Tallassee. I'm sorry
that you have too much to do to seek
a loving relationship with God. Prayer
is the Christian's way of communicating
our love to our heavenly Father, seeking
to be more Christ like by confessing
our failures, and interceding for
those who cannot intercede for themselves.
The relationship we have with God
defines us. Without Him we can do
nothing. Our lives are not easier
because we pray, but they are more
peaceful, joyous, and caring. You
say that there is more to life than
spending half of it in church while
we desire to give God all of our lives,
not just half.
I
don't expect either of you to understand
or relent to my thoughts. I'm sure
that to you they are foolishness and
can't be understood. Actually, I would
expect nothing less than your fervor.
God wouldn't either. He says that
He would rather you be hot or cold
than lukewarm. I as well. I prefer
your stance to self proclaimed Christians
that don't pray - Just Another

Our
Lord had a lot to say about Public
Prayer and People who pray in public.
He called them hypocrites . Prayer
is a personal thing that doesn't have
to include everybody within earshot
, it is suppose to be personal between
You and your God .
There is nothing wrong with praying
out loud , when you are among like
minded people , such as in your church.
But when you are in public and putting
on a show , its being a hypocrite
. All you are doing is disgusting
the people around you and disappointing
your God.
Jesus Christ taught us to show our
faith , by " Quiet Example "
This means quiet prayer , quiet giving
to charity , quietly setting an example
of loving your neighbor , even without
your neighbor knowing it - Glenn
