Mrs. Mary Carroll Taylor Payne, a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the age of 77.   She was born May 16, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Carroll D. and Clara Dowda Taylor.

Mrs. Payne is survived by her son, Russell Payne; grandchildren, Avery Payne (Courtney), Camden Payne, Annie Payne and Neely Payne;  sisters-in-law, Faye Taylor and Julia Norton (Earl);  niece, Cindy Entrekin; nephews, Bo Taylor, Daniel Norton and Tony Norton. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty – three  years, Mayor Robert “Bobby” Payne;  her son, Will Payne;  her parents, Buddy and Clara Taylor and her brother, Bill Taylor.

Mrs. Payne retired from Tallassee City Schools after teaching for twenty – six years.  She later retired from teaching in Columbus, Georgia, after thirteen years.  She immensely enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 11:00AM at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jay Woodall officiating.
